Louisville basketball continues to make a push in college basketball recruiting in the 2027 and 2028 recruiting classes. Right now, the Cardinals fans are keeping a close eye on multiple 2027 recruits, including 5-star Cayden Daughtry, 5-star Reese Alston, and many others.
However, we are going to move from the 2027 recruiting class to the 2028 recruiting class for right now. The contact period opened up earlier this summer, and Pat Kelsey and Louisville are taking full advantage. Louisville has quickly contacted some of the top-ranked recruits in the 2028 recruiting class, and just recently, they extended an offer to a 5-star center, Yann Kamagate.
Louisville basketball extends offer to 5-star center Yann Kamagate
Kelsey and the Cardinals officially are one of many programs to extend an offer to the unanimous 5-star center. Kamagate has earned over 24 offers as of now, including from notable programs such as Duke, Houston, Kansas, Kentucky, North Carolina, Michigan, Texas, and many others.
Kelsey attended a Kamagate game earlier this summer at the Section 7 basketball event in Mesa, Arizona, and multiple other events, including the NBAPA Top 100. The unanimous 5-star center has soared in the college basketball 2028 recruiting rankings, as at one point he was unranked, and now he is a consensus 5-star and a consensus top-five overall recruit in the 2028 cycle.
Kamagate currently ranks as high as No. 2 overall in the 2028 recruiting class and No. 1 among centers. The Cardinals have been making a push for elite centers recently, landing 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr. in the 2026 recruiting class, as well as making the final six for the No. 2 center in the 2027 recruiting class, Darius Wabbington.
Now, Louisville is the latest elite program to join the race for one of the best overall prospects in the 2028 recruiting class. Duke, Arizona, and BYU already have “warm” next to their names, according to 247 Sports, but with it so early in the recruiting process, Kelsey and Louisville should have plenty of time to catch up in this heated race.
