With the heat of the summer here, college basketball recruiting is beginning to heat up. The Louisville basketball team and Pat Kelsey are beginning to zone in on their top targets in the 2027 recruiting class, and a few names are beginning to stand out.

Louisville basketball has emerged as one of the top programs in college basketball since Pat Kelsey arrived, quickly turning the program into an elite recruiting force. The Cardinals have landed multiple 5-stars since Kelsey arrived, including two of the top three highest-rated commitments in program history.

Well, now in the 2027 recruiting class, Kelsey is looking to make another massive splash as the Cardinals continue to pick up momentum with one of the top recruits in the nation, Cayden Daughtry.

Daughtry is a unanimous 5-star point guard in the 2027 recruiting class, and in a recent interview, he made it clear that Kelsey is making a strong push for the Florida native.

“He wants me to come in and be the main guy,” stated Daughtry, according to multiple sources.

The 5-star point guard is ranked inside multiple recruiting outlets' top 10, as On3 Sports ranks him as high as No. 9 in the 2027 recruiting class and 247 Sports ranks him as high as the No. 3 point guard in the 2027 cycle.

Right now, the 5-star point guard is competing at the 2026 Nike EYBL Peach Jam, and On3 Sports Jamie Shaw reports Daughtry stated he is hearing the most from Louisville and Tennessee at the moment. The 5-star point guard stated he plans to release his top 10 or top 12 by the end of the event, which could mean the Cardinals get some good news sooner rather than later.

Other teams in the mix for the elite 5-star include Kentucky, UConn, Miami, Florida, Iowa, Michigan, Florida State, Virginia, BYU, and many other notable programs. The 6-foot, 160-pound point guard has earned over 28 offers, including from all the schools listed above.

Louisville has a track record of recruiting elite point guards since Kelsey arrived, as Mikel Brown Jr. is the second-highest-rated commitment in program history after he ranked No. 6 overall and No. 1 among point guards in the 2025 recruiting class. Kelsey has also brought in elite point guards from the Transfer Portal in Chucky Hepburn and Jackson Shelstad, and now it appears Daughtry might be one of Kelsey’s top dream targets in the 2027 cycle.

The 5-star recruit recently won gold with USA Basketball in the U17 FIBA World Cup, where he averaged 11.7 points and 4.7 assists while shooting a dominant 45.0 percent from beyond the arc. At the Peach Jam right now, the 5-star is averaging 33.0 points, 8.0 assists, 4.5 rebounds, and 5.0 steals per game after two games, while shooting 62.9 percent from the field and 36.4 percent from beyond the arc.
