Louisville basketball got excellent news late Tuesday night, as Joe Tipton went on 93.9 The Ville to talk Louisville basketball and specially some basketball recruiting news.
Joe Tipton is a National basketball reporter for On3 Sports, and a well-rounded analyst and one of the more respected college basketball reporters.
Louisville basketball is currently ranked in the top 10, No. 9, for the class of 2025, as they have one five star recruit in, Mikel Brown Jr., who has a recruiting score of 98.78, and is ranked eight overall in the class according to On3 Sports. Brown is a five-star across all recruiting platforms as he is the nation's No. 7 player in the Class of 2025 and the No. 2 point guard, according to 247Sports, and No. 11 in ESPN's 100.
Louisville is not done yet recruiting in the class of 2025 as they are in the "top 2" and a potential front runner for this 2025 McDonald's All American five-star recruit according to Tipton.
Louisville basketball front runner for Nate Ament
Pat Kelsey and his staff are trying to team up Mikel Brown Jr. with Nate Ament, the fourth ranked player in the class of 2025 with a recruiting score of 99.39. Ament had an official visit to Louisville back in October, and most recently cancelled his visit to Kansas State, making fans believe his decision is coming up soon.
Joe Tipton was on 93.9 The Ville yesterday and had great news for Cardinals fans and a thrilling update on Nate Ament and his decision.
“Louisville is at an interesting spot with Nate Ament." Tipton stated on the air. "I would say Louisville and Duke are the Top 2. They have a legitimate shot. Does have a visit with Kentucky this month. He has never been in a rush with his recruitment”
Cardinals were able to secure Mikel Brown Jr. over their rival, Kentucky, and hopefully fellow five-star can help sway Ament over to Kelsey and Louisville. Ament is a power forward at 6-foot-9 and 185 pounds with a 6-foot-11 wingspan and is from Warrenton, Va.
Ament height and wingspan is a great combination for how he plays the game and is a fluid player. He has potential to become a great shooter and ball handler, and has shown glimpse of his court awareness and vision.
“I think that Louisville is firmly in the mix and they really do have a legitimate shot here." Tipton stated. "A lot of people in Nate Ament’s camp are very high on Louisville and wish for him to go to Louisville. I’m told that Nate will ultimately make his own decision on where he wants to play college basketball, but those closest to him really like what Pat Kelsey and his staff have been able to do this season.”
The duo of Mikel Brown Jr. and Nate Ament is something Louisville fans dream of. Pat Kelsey has already brought this program back as the Cardinals were 8-24 last season, 4-28 in 2023 and a combine record of 25-71 in the last three seasons, and now sit 16-6 and were ranked for first time since 2020.
According to Tipton, Ament closest ones are loving what Pat Kelsey is doing with Louisville, and the commitment of Mikel Brown Jr. has to help as well.
Nate Ament and Mikel Brown are McDonalds All-Americans, and will play in the game April 1, at 9 p.m. local time.
