Louisville basketball gets crushing update on 5-star center Darius Wabbington

Louisville basketball gets a crushing update from one of the nation’s top 2027 recruits Monday, as the Cardinals learned they are no longer being considered for a 5-star center. Pat Kelsey and the Cardinals have been making a lot of noise in this 2027 recruiting class, with multiple 5-star updates.

The 2027 class is beginning to amp up as summer comes to an end, as the majority of the top 10 have cut their recruiting lists. Louisville has been featured on multiple update lists, including 2 overall DeMarcus Henry, No. 3 overall Cayden Daughtry, No. 5 overall King Gibson, and No. 7 overall Reese Alston, and they are one of the top teams in contention for No. 1 overall CJ Rosser.

However, 247Sports Jacob Polacheck reported on Monday, September 7, that 5-star center Darius Wabbington announced he is no longer taking his visit to Louisville and is now officially not considering the Cardinals.

5-star center Darius Wabbington cuts Louisville

Wabbington is one of the nation’s top-ranked centers in the class, and the Cards were a team trending with the 5-star. Earlier this summer, Wabbington cut his list to just six schools, putting Louisville in a recruiting battle with Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona.

With the Cardinals making his final six, Wabbington also announced he had scheduled an official visit with Louisville on September 11, Arizona on September 25, and Texas on October 9. However, Polacheck just reported that this is no longer the case, making this a five-team race, as the 5-star cut the Cardinals from the mix.

"I’m no longer considering Louisville," stated Wabbington, according to Polacheck.

Wabbington is a 5-star recruit who ranks as high as No. 9 overall in the nation, No. 2 among centers and No. 2 from Arizona. The 6-foot-10 center attends Sunnyslope High, where he averaged 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game last year. He also represented Team USA on their U18 team, averaging 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists during their silver-medal run.

Someone Louisville fans should keep an eye on is the 5-star center and the No. 1-ranked center, Lewis Uvwo. The Cardinals reportedly are making a late push for the 6-foot-11, 225-pound center, as On3 Sports Jamie Shaw recently reported that the Cardinals joined the mix.

Right now, Duke leads for Uvwo, but Kelsey has worked some magic in recruiting before. Uvwo ranks as high as No. 7 overall in the 2027 recruiting class and is coming off a dominant Peach Jam performance, averaging 6.0 blocks per game.

Wabbington cutting Louisville stings for the Cardinals, but it is still early in the recruiting mix that Kelsey can shift to another center if he needs to, and it appears he might have already done so.
