Louisville basketball got a major update Thursday afternoon when the Cardinals learned they received an official visit from a top-20 prospect in the 2027 recruiting class. Pat Kelsey and the Louisville Cardinals have been making a strong push for multiple prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, and now the Cardinals are gaining some momentum with a few recruits.
Earlier this month, Louisville fans saw Jamie Shaw of On3 Sports predict the Cardinals to land 5-star point guard Reese Alston. And before that, the Cardinals landed inside 5-star center Darius Wabbington’s final six and inside the No. 3 overall recruit Demarcus Henry’s final eight.
Now, the Cardinals have good news from 4-star Georgia native Asa Montgomery, as they earned an official visit.

Louisville is in a heated recruiting battle with seven other programs as the Cardinals are one of eight teams to earn an official visit from the top 20 prospect. The Cardinals are now battling LSU, Florida, UConn, Providence, North Carolina, Duke, and Arizona, each of which has a visit, according to Sam Kayser.

The Cardinals will be the last team of the eight programs to earn an official visit, as Kelsey will host Montgomery on Oct. 30. Before Louisville’s visit, the 4-star will begin his visit tour next weekend by visiting Will Wade and LSU on Aug. 28.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pound small forward ranks as high as No. 16 overall, No. 6 among small forwards, and No. 2 among recruits from Georgia. Montgomery recently climbed the rankings after a gold medal run with Team USA at the U17 World Cup, along with an impressive season in the EYCL where he averaged 24.1 points, 7.0 rebounds, 2.6 assists, 1.3 steals, and 1.3 blocks per game.
The elite 4-star small forward has earned over 27 offers, and now the Cardinals are trending as one of the top teams in the mix. They will have a fierce recruiting battle over the next couple of months, but Kelsey already has one 4-star committed, Ferlandes Wright, and now he is trying to land his next big splash in the 2027 recruiting class.
