With summer flying by, Louisville basketball fans are keeping a close eye on a couple of things. The Cardinals' 2026-27 season is quickly approaching, but these summer months are usually the biggest recruiting months in high school recruiting.
Louisville’s Pat Kelsey has been flying all over this summer, as he was seen in Virginia, Texas, and other states to watch some of the best recruits in the nation. Kelsey has been making a strong push for multiple elite recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, but the Cardinals' top targets are beginning to stand out from the rest.
Someone worth keeping an eye on for Louisville basketball fans is 5-star King Gibson.
Pat Kelsey making strong push for 5-star King Gibson
Gibson is one of the top recruits in this 2027 cycle, and Cardinals fans continue to hear good news about the unanimous 5-star recruit. Earlier this week, 247Sports' Jacob Polacheck posted on social media a quote from Gibson that Louisville fans should definitley be excited about.
"We're trying to get on campus, see the campus, and meet the coaching staff in-person,” stated Gibson, according to Polacheck.
Earlier this summer, On3 Sports' Joe Tipton reported Louisville is one of the top programs making a strong push for the unanimous 5-star recruit and that Gibson and the Cardinals have been talking to each other a lot recently. Right now, the recruiting battle for the 6-foot-4, 195-pound guard also includes big-time programs like Arkansas, Michigan, Baylor, UConn, LSU, and North Carolina State.
Gibson, of course, has a notable offer list, as the combo guard has earned over 32 offers so far, including from all seven teams making a push for him this summer, as well as Alabama, Houston, Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, and others.
Getting the 5-star on a visit would be a huge step in the right direction for Louisville, especially after the recruiting run they went on this offseason. It felt like anytime Kelsey got a transfer or a recruit on campus a week later, the Cardinals would earn a commitment from that player.
Louisville turned heads this offseason with recruiting, landing the No. 1 transfer Flory Bidunga and the former 2027 No. 1 overall recruit, Obinna Ekezie Jr. Now, Gibson is trending as one of Kelsey’s top targets in the 2027 recruiting class, and hopefully Louisville fans see him at the KFC Yum! Center this year for a game.
The elite guard plays for SPIRE Academy and is regarded as the No. 1 recruit out of Ohio, the No. 1 combo guard, and the No. 5 overall prospect in the 2027 recruiting class.
