The college basketball season is quickly approaching, which also means high school recruiting is amping up to the next level. Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball have been making a strong push for multiple recruits in the 2027 class, but the Cardinals are also looking ahead to the 2028 class.
Louisville basketball continues to gain momentum for 5-star PG Reese Alston
The 2028 recruiting class stands out for many reasons, but one glaring reason is how many local recruits rank inside the top 100. The city of Louisville has four recruits ranked inside 247Sports' top 100, with Josh Lindsay as the top-ranked Kentucky native recruit.
Another Louisville native who stands out is 4-star shooting guard Jordan Mitchell. The Kentucky native now plays for Link Academy in Missouri, but he is showing love for his hometown, as he visited the Cardinals for an unofficial visit this past weekend.

Kelsey has completely resurrected this program since he arrived, and a big reason why is his ability to recruit. Kelsey has emerged as one of the nation's top recruiters, landing two 5-stars and consistently dominating the Transfer Portal.
Now, he looks to recruit locally in the 2028 recruiting class, as Mitchell is emerging as an early target. Mitchell’s visit to Louisville this weekend marks his second unofficial visit to the Cardinals.

The 4-star shooting guard played for Louisville Male High this past season, where he averaged a dominant 24 points per game while shooting 55 percent from the field and 42 percent from three-point range. The 6-foot-4, 180-pound guard was selected to play in the All-Star game at the Pangos All-American Camp in Las Vegas, where he scored 16 points while shooting 77.8 percent from the field and 60 percent from beyond the arc.
The Louisville native then transferred to Link Academy this offseason and will now play high school basketball at a national level. The 4-star guard ranks as high as No. 56 overall, No. 11 among combo guards, No. 19 among shooting guards, and No. 1 among Missouri recruits.
Mitchell is hearing the most from the Cardinals, Oklahoma State, Virginia Tech, TCU, and Auburn, and currently has five offers. The Cardinals landed Louisville native Ferlandes Wright in the 2027 recruiting class, and it appears Kelsey is trying to stay local in the 2028 class and get a major lead on a top-60 overall recruit in Mitchell.
