Louisville basketball’s 2026-27 season is quickly approaching, which means recruiting is starting to ramp up. The Cardinals are in the mix for multiple elite prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, with several top-10 recruits trending toward Louisville.
Louisville basketball continues making moves for No. 1 CJ Rosser and No. 2 DeMarcus Henry
Right now, Louisville has made updated recruiting lists for the top three recruits, CJ Rosser, DeMarcus Henry, and Cayden Daughtry, as well as 5-star point guard Reese Alston. If you've paid close attention to Pat Kelsey and his recruiting, Alston is a name you are very familiar with.
Kelsey’s actions have made it clear Alston is one of his top priorities in the 2027 recruiting class, and as time passes, On3 Sports' Jamie Shaw continues to name Louisville the frontrunner.
Louisville continues to hear good news with Reese Alston
It is a crucial part of Alston’s recruiting process, as the unanimous 5-star point guard recently visited Purdue and LSU, has a visit lined up this weekend at Tennessee, and is scheduled to visit Kentucky on October 13.
The Cardinals took matters into their own hands after Alston visited LSU, as Kelsey hopped on a plane and visited the point guard shortly after his visit to Baton Rouge. Kelsey made multiple visits to watch Alston this summer, including a trip to Texas and Richmond, Va to watch Alston at the Puma NXTPro 16 event.
Now, Shaw reports that Louisville is still the slight frontrunner for Alston, saying, “I continue to hear from sources that Louisville currently carries some momentum.” Shaw isn’t the only college basketball analyst to say this; Fox Sports insider Aaron Torres said Louisville is the team to beat in this recruiting process.
“I think Louisville is going to get this guy eventually; I really do,” stated Torres. “Pat Kelsey opened the recruiting period visiting five-star guard Reese Alston - just like they opened the summer seeing him."
The Cardinals have already earned their official visit from Alston, as they are one of four teams to do so. Louisville recently made Alston’s final seven, putting the Cardinals in a recruiting battle with Kentucky, LSU, Tennessee, Wichita State, Houston, and Vanderbilt.
Alston ranks as high as No. 7 overall and No. 2 among point guards. The 5-star point guard is coming off a dominant season in which he averaged 22.22 points, 5.3 assists, 3.9 rebounds, and 2.7 steals per game, earning MaxPreps Junior All-American First Team honors.
Alston is a game-changing point guard and would be a massive addition to the Cardinals' 2027 recruiting class. This is one to watch closely, Cards fans, because right now Louisville appears to be one of the top teams in the mix.
