Louisville basketball continues to make some noise in the 2027 recruiting class, as the Cardinals are in the mix for multiple elite recruits. The 2027 recruiting class is really beginning to heat up, and Pat Kelsey is positioning himself right in the mix for some of the top prospects.
Recently, Louisville has made some updated recruiting lists in the 2027 recruiting class, including 5-star Demarcus Henry's final eight. Henry is one of the top recruits in the nation, ranking as high as No. 3 in the 2027 cycle, the No. 1 small forward, and the No. 1 recruit from Arizona.
Another player, Kelsey, who is making a push for, and Louisville basketball fans should keep a close eye on, is 5-star center Darius Wabbington.
Pat Kelsey turning up the heat for 5-star center Darius Wabbington
Earlier this summer, the Cardinals got a major update from the elite 2027 center, as Louisville made Wabbington’s final six and earned an official visit. Louisville is right now in a heated recruiting battle for the 5-star center with Kentucky, North Carolina, Indiana, Texas, and Arizona.
And recently, On3 Sports' Jody Demling reported that the Cardinals head coach is still making a push for the 5-star center, as Kelsey was in attendance at the 3Stripes Select Basketball event for the Cardinals' 5-star target.

Wabbington is ranked as the top center in the 2027 recruiting class, as the 6-foot-11, 245-pound center ranks as high as No. 13 overall in the 2027 recruiting class, and No. 1 among centers. Louisville has an official visit scheduled from the 5-star on Sept. 11, and it appears Kelsey is looking to build their relationship with the top-ranked center leading up to that official visit.
The Cardinals landed the original No. 1 center in the 2027 recruiting class in Obinna Ekezie Jr., and now Kelsey appears to be gaining some momentum with the new top-ranked center. Ekezie, of course, reclassified to the 2026 class and is now on Louisville’s roster for this upcoming season.
The 5-star center attends Sunnyslope High in Arizona, where he dominated his junior season, averaging 17.5 points, 9.5 rebounds, and 1.3 blocks per game. Wabbington also went on to represent Team USA on its U19 National Team and averaged 9.2 points, 4.2 rebounds, and 2.2 assists in its silver-medal run.
Kelsey is attending the event in South Carolina to watch Wabbington and strengthen that relationship ahead of their visit, which is crucial, and now Cardinals fans are hoping Louisville can gain some momentum for Wabbington. The 5-star center is a name Louisville fans should keep a close eye on as the summer winds down, and hopefully, the Cardinals can gain some ground on Arizona and some others.
