Louisville basketball has been pushing hard for a lot of recruits in the 2027 class this offseason, including multiple 5-stars. Cardinals fans are keeping a close eye on some of the top recruits in the 2027 class, including one of the top-ranked point guards Reese Alston, the No. 1 overall recruit, CJ Rosser, and 5-star forward Moussa Kamissoko.

Louisville has the attention of Kamissoko, as the Cardinals extended an offer to the 5-star and are making a strong push for the 6-foot-8 small forward. Kelsey has landed a 5-star in two straight recruiting classes, Mikel Brown Jr. and Obinna Ekezie Jr., and now he is trying to make it three with Kamissoko and others.

However, it isn’t going to be an easy path to landing Kamissoko, as one of the Cardinals' ACC rivals is in pursuit of the 5-star forward. 247 Sports Dushawn London reported earlier this week that Florida State landed an official visit from the Cardinals target, putting some pressure on Kelsey and Louisville in their pursuit of Kamissoko.

5-star Moussa Kamissoko locks an official visit with Florida State

Earlier this summer, it was reported by Cardinal Authority that Louisville’s head coach, Pat Kelsey, was consistently in contact with the 5-star. Kamissoko reportedly said Kelsey calls him multiple times a week, is trying to build the relationship, and wants to lock the 5-star in for an official visit.

"Pat Kelsey calls me three or four times a week," stated Kamissoko, according to Cardinal Authority "We just catch up. He asks me how my day is. We have been talking about visits, but we're trying to get it right."

Now, the Cardinals learned that one of their ACC rivals is making an early push for the 5-star as well, and it looks like they have a slight lead for Kamissoko. The New York native is a top-15 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class, as the 6-foot-8, 180-pound small forward ranks as high as No. 8 overall, No. 3 among small forwards, and No. 1 from New York.

The small forward has earned over 30 offers so far, including from notable programs like Kentucky, Illinois, Alabama, BYU, North Carolina State, Virginia, and others. Now, after Florida State landed the first official visit for August 28, the Seminoles are the dominant favorite.

According to Rivals' predictions, they give Florida State a 62.9 percent chance of landing the 5-star. The next closest team is Syracuse with a 3.4 percent chance. So, while Kelsey and Louisville are trying to build that relationship with the No. 8 overall recruit, it is clear, according to Rivals, that the Cards' ACC rival, Florida State, is the frontrunner for Kamissoko.

It is still very early in the recruiting process, but the Cardinals clearly have a real threat with Florida State in their efforts to try and land the 5-star small forward. For all Louisville basketball recruiting updates, stay tuned.
