Louisville basketball have won 14 of their last 15 games, and continue to dominate the ACC.
Pat Kelsey is leading this Cardinals squad to a historic season, and they are on the verge of winning programs most ACC games in a single season. UofL currently is the three seed in the ACC Tournament, but if Clemson slips up one game in their final stretch Cardinals will hae control for the two seed, and will sit pretty behind Duke.
As for the NCAA Tournament, Cardinals seem to be a lock for a seven seed in Joe Lunardi's eyes. However, don't panic Cardinals fans, Louisville basketball has five games remaining that heavily favor them, and then the ACC Tournament.
If Louisville can make a push in the ACC Tournament and go to the ACC Championship, it is hard to believe they stay as a seven seed and dont jump to at least a six seed, and if they win would have a great case for a five seed assuming it is against Duke.
Joe Lunardi doesn't have an update for UofL seeding, but who they play is a team they have seen before, and the second round would be against a familiar SEC opponent from this season.
Louisville basketball seeks SEC revenge
Louisville basketball is predicted to go up against West Virginia, member of the Big East, a team the Cardinals used to see every year back when they were in the Big East.
Louisville has the series advantage of 10-4, and have won seven of the last 10 matchup, including their matchup from this season when Cardinals won 79-70 in overtime. Louisville was led by star guard, Chucky Hepburn, as this was his breakout game and scored his season-high 32 points, and had 17 in the second half.
Cardinals looked much different at the time as Reyne Smith was coming off the bench, he added four threes, and James Scott was coming off the bench for Kasean Pryor.
If Cardinals can get by the Mountaineers, they see a team they faced earlier this season again in Tennessee most likely if they can defeat Central Connecticut. This game was early in the season, Pat Kelsey and his 13 transfers were still trying to build chemistry, and the lack of chemistry definitley showed.
Tennessee thumped Louisville, 77-55, and the starters at the time time combine for 16 points. Reyne Smith led all scorers off the bench with 18 points, four threes, and Cardinals shot an abysmal 25% from beyond the arc.
Cardinals own the overall record of head-to-head of 12-9, but haven't picked up a win against the Volunteers since 2008-2009 season. Louisville is much different now, then when they played both these teams, and would be a facinating first and secon round matchup.
The rematches would be thrilling and exciting, and the growth of Chucky Hepburn, Terrence Edwards, Jr, Reyne Smith and the overall three-point shooting would have Cardinals fans feeling confident in their team, even against Tennessee.
Pat Kelsey knew his team's three-point shooting would come alive eventually, and he even stated that in most recent press conference when asked about the improvement of three-point shooting.
"We hunt great. Hunting great means hunting high-percentage shots, great shots, shots that we really value, and when we generate those, I sleep like a baby whether they go in or not. You can't be on the whims of makes or misses, you have to be process oriented about generating great offense. I told you back then I am such a big believer that things come back to the mean. You are what the back of your bubble gum card says you are."
Louisville now leads the ACC with made threes and shooting around 37%. Cardinals future looks bright, and they are becoming one of the nations scary teams in NCAA Tournament because of their ability to get hot.
