Louisville basketball has won 14 of their last 15 games, and just secured their 20th win of the season.
Pat Kelsey continues to etch this 2024-2025 team in program history, and the more they win, the more media spotlight they are recieving. Recently, Reyne Smith is getting a lot of attention, as he is just the third player in program history to make a 100 or more threes in a single season.
Louisville also have won 13 ACC games this season, which is second most in program history and more then their last three seasons combined. Cardinals need to win just three of their final five games to secure the most ACC wins in a single season in program history.
However, Pat Kelsey was asked if his staff or team or the program ever looks at the horizon and thinks about the future and where the team will be in a few weeks, and he handled it the best way possible.
Pat Kelsey's secret formula to Louisville basketball dramatic turnaround
Louisville basketball had a 12-52 record under Kenny Payne in the two years before Pat Kelsey, including 8-24 this last season, and 4-28 the year before. Pat Kelsey quickly came to rescue this historic program and flipped this program completely around.
Pat Kelsey has many messages to his team, but this one in his most recent press conference might be the secret recipe to their dominant season so far.
Kelsey was being asked if the players are starting to get excited and think about playing in the NCAA Tournament and that they seem almost like a lock for post season, but Kelsey response was excellent, eyes are locked in on the present and not the future.
"We never ever, ever talk about that ever." Kelsey stated on the future and Louisville basketball being in the NCAA Tournament most likely. "I say it all the time, our soul focus is the most important thing in the history of our program, which is the next thing we do."
Louisville basketball is predicted to be a seven seed in March Madness as of now, and just returned back to the Ap Rankings, as they are now ranked No. 25. Pat Kelsey continues to make this season one for the ages, and he expressed the main focus for Louisville basketball is the present.
"It is just about today's off day, and getting our academics in order, recovering, doing the normal postgame day after recovery, and then we get back to practice on Tuesday, it is challenging our guys to have unbelievable excellence in our weight session and our film session, and pre-practice walk-through, our practice, and we are just so process oriented." Kelsey stated.
"Those outcomes will take care of themselves down the road, if we just stay focused on the things right in front of us. We can't do anything about those right now, and the only thing we can do is try and maintain our daily excellence." Kelsey stated
Pat Kelsey is becoming a name in Coach of the Year talks, as his turnaround is remarkable, and this answer is clearly the blueprint on how he got this Cardinals team to where they are. His statement on "the most important thing in the history of our program, which is the next thing we do." almost should give Cardinals fans goosebumps.
Pat Kelsey leadership is one that Cardinals fans have been patiently waiting for, and he is answering all their prayers. They are sitting pretty in the ACC standings, and will look to close out their season on another dominant win streak.
Cardinals have just five games remaining, and four of them are in KFC Yum! Center. Lousiville basketball is heavily favorited in all of them, but like Kelsey stated most important thing is now, and right now they are getting ready for their next matchup, which is Satuday at noon local time against Florida State.
