Louisville basketball recently landed 4-star Boyuan Zhang, as Pat Kelsey and his masterclass offseason continue. The Cardinals' offseason has been eye-popping, as Louisville and Kelsey were forced to completely rebuild their roster after losing all five starters and nine of their top 10 players from the previous season.

Pat Kelsey’s monster offseason continues with Louisville’s latest 4-star addition

However, Kelsey has struck gold and has dominated this offseason, adding nine new players, including Monday’s commitment. Zhang commits as a unanimous 4-star recruit, and as high as No. 46 overall in the 2026 cycle. Kelsey has now built a lineup trending toward a strong push for the Final Four, but Louisville fans don’t think he is done just yet.

When looking at the Cardinals' roster, Louisville fans hope Kelsey attacks a couple more areas, but one glaring need is a true power forward.

Pat Kelsey needs one more true power forward

Now, the Cardinals' frontcourt has a lot of depth and versatility already with Flory Bidunga, Obinna Ekezie Jr., Gabe Dynes, and Alvaro Folguieras, but only one of those is a true power forward. The Cards fans want just one more true power forward who can help Folguieras.

Right now, it feels like Ekezie and Bidunga are going to get some power forward minutes, but if Kelsey can go get one true power forward, preferably someone like Folguieras, who is a stretch four and can space the floor out when one of the centers is in the game, that is the dream scenario.

The Cardinals' center position is loaded with talent and potential, but it isn’t easy to just move from center to power forward. And while Ekezie made it clear he is excited to develop at the position, if Folguieras gets in foul trouble, it would be nice to have just one more depth option at the power forward position if Ekezie or Bidunga are having a hard time in that secondary position.

Now, the dream player, of course, is the Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic. How realistic is this? It doesn’t seem likely, but to give the readers an example of exactly what some fans are looking for, we are going to dream big for a second.

Momcilovic was one of the best 3-point shooters this past season, making 136 3-pointers, the most in Division I basketball. The 6-foot-8, 225-pound forward has the height and is a true power forward, but would also be an elite 3-point specialist for Louisville, which would allow the offense to flow much better.

Now, this doesn’t seem likely at the moment, as it is being reported he will likely keep his name in the 2026 NBA Draft, but his style of play is what the Cardinals fans are looking for.

Right now, Louisville is making a serious push to be a Final Four contender, and with the addition of a true power forward for some depth behind Folguieras, Louisville fans will feel even better about their chances and the team Kelsey is building.
