Louisville basketball trending with 5-star 2026 point guard

Pat Kelsey and the Louisville Cardinals are emerging as a top recruiting school. The Louisville men's basketball program has recruited elite 5-star talent in the class of 2026. The Cardinals have already made trips to numerous 5-stars and are favorites to land the consensus No. 1 recruit in the class.

Louisville basketball has a 42.7 percent chance of landing Tyran Stokes and is now trending towards another 5-star recruit. The Cardinals learned excellent news late Tuesday afternoon as they secured a visit with one of the best point guards in the class of 2026.

According to Sam Kayser, one of the Cardinals' top targets in the elite class, Taylen Kinney, is reportedly visiting Louisville on June 5.

Kinney, an Atlanta, Ga. native, currently plays basketball for Overtime Elite. According to 247Sports Composite, the point guard is ranked as a 5-star recruit, No. 16 in the class, the fourth-best point guard, and the second-best player from Georgia.

On3 Sports ranks him as the 18th-best player in the class and the third-best point guard. They also give the Cardinals the second-best odds to land the Georgia phenom with a 22.6 percent chance. However, the Kentucky Wildcats hold the best opportunity at 25.8 percent.

The 5-star recruit played for Rod Wave Elite and averaged 20.1 points, 5.0 assists, 4.0 rebounds, and 2.3 steals per game. He was able to be an elite scorer while shooting the rock at an impressive split of 55.6 percent from the floor and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc.

Kinney also played for the Wildcat Select in the Adidas 3SSB. The elite point guard prospect once again put on a clinic, averaging 20.3 points, 4.4 rebounds, and 4.3 assists per game.

The Cardinals have made multiple visits to watch Kinney in person and have been extremely impressed. They are thrilled to earn a visit from this elite point guard, who is emerging as a glaring No. 1 option to replace Mikel Brown Jr. once he declares for the NBA Draft.

The Cardinals have yet to earn any commitments in the class of 2026, but they are all-in on the top prospects. Kelsey and his Cardinals have offered over 23 recruits in the 2026 class.
