Louisville basketball has made a major push in the 2027 recruiting class, as Pat Kelsey has the Cardinals on multiple recruits' updated recruiting lists. One 5-star recruit Louisville made a lot of noise about was top-10 prospect Reese Alston.
The Houston native cut his list to just five schools and announced his commitment yesterday, but unfortunately, Kelsey is still looking for that first 5-star in the 2027 class. Alston committed to LSU over the Cardinals on Thursday, giving Will Wade his second 5-star guard and third top-25 recruit in the 2027 recruiting class.

Louisville will miss one of its top wide receivers in Stanford showdown
Moving on to football, Louisville and Jeff Brohm are looking for their third straight win, and they will have to do it without a major offensive weapon. The Cardinals face Stanford in a Week 9 ACC showdown, and in the Cards' initial injury reports, Louisville fans learned that Florida State transfer and Lincoln Kienholz top receiver, Lawayne McCoy, is out with an injury.
McCoy was one of the Cardinals who got banged up a couple of weeks ago in the Syracuse win, and it appears the injury lingered through the bye, and he will now miss his first game of the season. In 2026 McCoy has collected 25 catches for 513 yards and four receiving touchdowns.

Louisville defeats Mercyhurst in final preseason game
The Cardinals finished their preseason with a 32-point win over Mercyhurst, as UofL and Pat Kelsey won 71-39. The Cards finished their preseason 2-0, including a top-20 road win when Louisville defeated the No. 17 Kansas Jayhawks 89-83.
In their win over Mercyhurst, Louisville fans saw plenty of promising signs, including a 19-point, 9-rebound night from 5-star transfer Flory Bidunga and another double-digit performance off the bench from Dayton transfer De'Shayne Montgomery. But the 32-point win wasn’t all positives. Louisville has a couple of things to clean up, including turnovers and 3-point shooting. UofL finished with 17 turnovers and shot just 2-of-13 from beyond the arc, which certainly grabbed Cardinals fans' attention.
