Louisville football takes on the Stanford Cardinal at home in L&N Stadium this Saturday. Jeff Brohm and UofL are seeking their third straight win, after the Cardinals defeated Florida State and Syracuse before entering their bye week.

Jeff Brohm just revealed how Louisville can avoid another crushing Stanford upset

Now, they face Stanford in a revenge game from two years ago, when a 2-win Stanford team shattered the Cardinals' ACC Title dreams by upsetting Louisville the week after their historic win over Clemson. The Cardinals will face Stanford for just the second time in program history, and they will do it without one of their key stars.

Wednesday night, UofL released its first injury report for the ACC showdown, and Cardinals fans quickly noticed their star wide receiver, Lawayne McCoy, was out.

Louisville's star WR Lawayne McCoy ruled out for Saturday

The Florida State transfer has been one of Lincoln Kienholz's top targets this year. He leads the Cardinals in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, but now they will have to try to earn their fifth win of the season without him.

McCoy was one of the many Cardinals banged up in Louisville’s road win over Syracuse, and the 4-star transfer is now quickly ruled out for the Week 8 matchup.

McCoy has earned 25 catches for 513 yards and four receiving touchdowns. He has been one of Kienholz's top targets, averaging an impressive 20.6 yards per catch. With McCoy out, Louisville and Kienholz will need Vanderbilt transfer Tre Richardson to take it to the next level and try to make up for McCoy’s absence.

Richardson has also had an impressive year through seven games, leading the team with 30 receptions, 493 yards, and two touchdowns.

Louisville is a dominant favorite in this matchup, with FanDuel giving it a three-touchdown lead as of Thursday. The Cards are 21.5-point favorites as of today, with ESPN giving UofL a 98% chance of winning. Hopefully, Louisville can win without McCoy, and this offense doesn’t miss him too much, and Brohm and the Cards improve to 5-3 and 4-2 in conference play.
