The Cardinals' top-ranked commitment continues to get the recognition he deserves. Louisville football has 17 commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, but the one getting all the attention is 4-star wide receiver Ja’Hyde Brown.
Louisville football 4-star commit Ja’Hyde Brown is making his case for 5-star status
The Louisville native has been turning heads nationwide since the summer after an eye-popping offseason, winning Rivals MVP at The Opening Finals in June. After that dominant performance, the 4-star Cardinals commitmend surged in Rivals rankings, moving up from No. 252 in the 2027 recruiting class, No. 49 among wide receivers, and No. 5 among recruits from Kentucky to No. 66 in the nation and No. 11 among wide receivers.
Well, the 4-star continues to move up, as the Rivals just updated their rankings again, and the Louisville native is now inside the top 50.

Brown has had a dominant senior season for Christian Academy of Louisville, and it's now clear it isn’t just Louisville fans who have noticed. Rivals just updated their rankings for the 2027 class, and Brown is now ranked as high as No. 32 in the nation, No. 5 among wide receivers and No. 2 among Kentucky natives.

The Cardinals' top-ranked commitment is officially on 5-star watch for the second half of the season, as the top 22 recruits in the nation are 5-stars. Brown is not only eyeing his fifth star from Rivals, but he is eyeing history.
Brown has been dominant so far in his senior season, logging 19 receiving touchdowns and 46 catches for 800 yards through just six games. What makes these stats even more impressive is that he has played only 14 quarters, meaning he hasn’t played in 10 total quarters.
The 4-star wide receiver’s 19 touchdowns are just 11 touchdowns shy of the state record for most receiving touchdowns in a single season. Right now, Owensboro Catholic’s William Carrico holds the record, but with five games remaining, Brown is on pace to break this record, which could help his case to jump even higher and earn that 5-star rating.
Brown has attended multiple games this year for the Cardinals and appears to be all-in on Louisville as signing day approaches. There were rumors over the summer that Brown was on flip watch after his massive surge inside the top 100, but those rumors have died down, and he seems very excited about Jeff Brohm and this Louisville offense.
Cardinals fans can’t wait to watch Brown play with Lincoln Kienholz and company next season, as the 4-star recruit has the potential to make an immediate impact as a freshman.
