Louisville football has an eye-popping 2027 commitment, Ja’Hyde Brown. The local 4-star recruit is now one of the highest-rated commitments in program history, as recently the elite wide receiver soared in Rivals’ 2027 recruiting rankings following a dominant summer.
Brown was ranked as high as No. 252 in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 49 among wide receivers, but after winning MVP at the Rivals Opening event this summer, the local 4-star was one of the biggest risers in the recruiting class. Brown is now ranked as high as No. 66 in the 2027 recruiting class, No. 11 among wide receivers, and is ranked No. 2 among in-state recruits.
The Cardinals fans are very excited about Brown in their commitment class, and with Alabama and others trying to flip Him, the local commitment explained why he chose Louisville.

Recently, Brown emerged on a flip watch following his eye-popping offseason. Before he won MVP, many well-known college football programs contacted the Cardinals' commitment, including Alabama, Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas Tech, UCLA, and Kentucky.
Now, as he soared in the rankings, it is only reasonable to assume that Bama, Kentucky, and other schools will try even harder to flip the Louisville commitment.
However, Brown recently appeared on the Pick A Side podcast and explained why he committed to Louisville and why he is excited to be the hometown hero.
“If you know anything about college football offenses, you know about Jeff Brohm,” stated Brown. “That was really a big reason why I chose to stay here. Jeff Brohm is from here. He has a crazy offensive mind when it comes to football. I’ve watched how he uses receivers with my body type in the past, and I’ve seen the production that they had, so I mean that just really made the decision easier too.”
With Louisville fans a bit worried about Brown potentially flipping, his praise for the Cardinals' head coach is great to hear. Brohm is known as one of the better college football coaches and tends to receive a lot of respect and praise from players.
The top priority for Louisville is keeping Brown and avoiding a nightmare situation of him flipping to Alabama, Kentucky, or another program. The Cardinals have already lost five commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, including a Louisville native.
Allen Evans was a massive commitment for the Cardinals, as he is a top 100 recruit in the nation and the No. 10 cornerback in the class. However, the Louisville native decommitted from Louisville and flipped to Vanderbilt.
Now, Louisville fans are praying a similar situation doesn’t happen with another local 4-star. Brown is an elite wide receiver who attends Christian Academy of Louisville and had a dominant junior season, logging 98 catches for 1,556 yards and 24 touchdowns.
