Louisville football glaring weakness on the offensive side is the tight end position, and the hole just got bigger.

Cardinals found out Friday afternoon that Izayah Cummings entered his name into the transfer portal as a graduate transfer. Cummings career at Louisville was short lived as he only played one season with Jeff Brohm and his staff.

Cummings only had three catches for 33 yards this past season, but the tight end room is dwindling and every man counts.  In Cummings full college career he has 21 receptions 326 yards. The transfer from Kentucky, is listed at 6-foot-4, 235-pound, and his best season came back in 2021, when he secured 14 catches for 195 yards and three touchdowns.

Cummings is the 19th overall Louisville football player to hit the transfer portal, and the second tight end. Earlier this offseason Jamari Johnson hit the transfer portal and moved to Big 10 champions, Oregon Ducks.

If Louisville and Jeff Brohm want a shot at history, and secure their first ACC Championship crown, they desperatley need to hit the portal to find themselves a tight end.

Louisville football has a serios tight end concern

Cummings might have had minimum production in his tenure with Louisville, but the tight end rooms continues to get smaller, and Brian Brohm loves to utilize his tight ends in his play calling.

Cardinals had one of the best transfer portal signings in quarterback, Miller Moss. Transfer quarterback had 2,555 passing yards, with 18 touchdowns and a QBR of 74.4 and was one of the nations best. Moss had a grading score of 90 and four-stars via 247Sports.

The Cardinals offense has the chance to be as explosive as it gets with Moss, Isaac Brown and Caullin Lacy, but this Cardinals offense likes to use their tight ends on key plays, and to help move the chains.

Mark Redman was the Cardinals starting tight end in the 2024 season and was ranked fourth on the team with 24 receptions third in receiving yards with 256 yards. He also placed third in touchdown scored for the team, as he found the end zone three times in 13 games.

The year prior, Joey Gatewood led the tight ends with nine catches for 150 yards, and was third in receiving touchdowns with three. Brohm loves to utilize his tight ends in the red zone and help block for Isaac Brown.

Nate Kurisky, the sophomore out of Washington D.C., had 12 catches for 112 yards and three touchdowns. He has a total of 153 receiving yards and five touchdowns in he young college career.

Behind Kurisky for depth perspective as of now is Jaleel Skinner. Skinner was a four-star recruit ranked 100th nationally, and fourth best tight end in class of 2022, according to 247 sports. The high-rated prospect has a lot of potential, but has only had 11 catches for 142 yards and one touchdown.

Louisville football 2025 offense has major star power in the locker room, but if this team wants to reach its unlimited potential, Jeff and Brian Brohm are going to have to hit the transfer portal for a starting tight end.
