Louisville football had a hot start to June, landing multiple commitments in the first couple of weeks. The Cardinals and Jeff Brohm are looking to have their first top-25 recruiting class since 2023 and their third top-25 recruiting class in program history.
Louisville football's new No. 1 target is clear after Dre'Mail Carothers update
The Cardinals had over 27 recruits on campus across two weekends, which led to a few commitments in June. One of the Cardinals' commitments this month included the top-ranked quarterback recruit from the state of Kentucky, Dre'Mail Carothers, as the Cards landed him shortly following his June visit.
Another recruit who was on campus this summer was 3-star linebacker Kaylon Bailey, and with his commitment decision Thursday evening, Louisville fans were watching closely; however, the Ohio native committed to Deion Sanders and the Colorado Buffaloes.
Colorado land 3-star LB over Louisville, Ohio State and others
Louisville was in a recruiting battle with multiple Power Four teams, as the Cardinals, Colorado, Ohio State, West Virginia, and USF all earned official visits the past two months, but Sanders ultimately won the recruiting battle.

Louisville is trying to make a push at the linebacker position, as they have been in the mix over the past few weeks, but they haven't had the luck fall their way. Bailey visited all five schools since May 29, with the Cardinals receiving the first visit on the last weekend of May.
Following the Cardinals' visit, the 3-star linebacker then visited West Virginia, Ohio State, Colorado, and USF, in that order. Sanders and Colorado left a huge impression on Bailey, who landed the 3-star over major programs like Ohio State and the Cardinals.
Bailey earned over 19 offers, including from all five programs that received visits, as well as from notable schools like Florida State, Wisconsin, Syracuse, Pitt, Iowa State, Michigan State, and others. The Cardinals have prioritized the state of Ohio in recruiting, along with their home state, Kentucky, as Louisville has five Ohio natives committed so far in the 2027 class.
However, Colorado landed Bailey over Vince Marrow and Brohm, which is a notable addition for Sanders, as Bailey is a top-25 recruit from the state of Ohio. The 3-star linebacker ranks as high as No. 765 in the 2027 recruiting class, No. 46 among linebackers, and No. 24 among recruits from the state of Ohio.
Louisville, as of now, has two 3-star linebacker commits, and it recently missed on 3-star linebacker CJ Ohuabunwa, who announced earlier this week that he was committing to Florida State over the Cardinals. The Cardinals also landed a visit from 4-star linebacker Theo Wilson, but it appears North Carolina is now the dominant favorite as 247Sports logged a Crystal Ball prediction favoring the Tar Heels.
Brohm and Louisville will look to get back on track as they search for that coveted top-25 class.
