Louisville football got a gut-wrenching update on Friday as the Cardinals learned their No. 1-ranked commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, Allen Evans, flipped his commitment from the Cardinals to Vanderbilt.
Louisville football suffers gut-wrenching blow as top 4-star flips commitment to Vanderbilt
Evans was one of the ranked commitments in Louisville football history, as he ranks No. 76 overall in the 2027 recruiting class, No. 9 among cornerbacks, and No. 2 among Kentucky natives. He is a Louisville native, as he plays at Trinity High School, but Clark Lea was able to rip him away from Jeff Brohm, forcing Louisville to try and find a new elite playmaker on the outside.
With Evans officially committed to Vanderbilt, Louisville has to try to replace the 4-star cornerback. While it won't be easy, there is one obvious target who would be the perfect replacement, as  4-star cornerback Monsanna Torbert is now Louisville's No. 1 dream target.

With Evans off to Vandy, the Cardinals must continue to make a strong push for the elite 4-star cornerback from Ohio. It was reported last week that Louisville was making a run at the 4-star recruit and was immersed in a recruiting battle with Big 10 powerhouses.
As it stands this morning, Louisville is in a recruiting battle with Michigan and Ohio State for Torbert. 247Sports lists "warm" next to all three teams, and Rivals recruiting expert Steve Wiltfong was one of the first to report that Louisville was in the mix.
Torbert originally committed to Indiana, but he continued to earn offers and hear from major programs, including these three teams, and ultimately decommitted. The 4-star cornerback has earned over 34 offers, including from elite teams like Alabama, Notre Dame, Texas, Oklahoma, and many other Power Four programs.
Between Louisville, Michigan, and Ohio State, the Wolverines were the first to extend an offer on March 4, followed by Louisville on March 14, and then Ohio State on April 6. Before Louisville entered the mix, both teams scheduled official visits: Ohio State earned the first on June 12, and the next weekend, Michigan earned a visit on June 19.
So, now with Louisville entering the mix a bit late, the Cardinals have an uphill battle. But Brohm has had some recruiting magic before, and with Evans leaving, he could make a massive push for Torbert. The Cardinals have prioritized recruits from Ohio, and the elite cornerback is from Cincinnati, Ohio, so Louisville fans are hoping Brohm can shock everyone.
It is reported that Torbert is set to make his announcement on July 1, this Wednesday. Michigan is trending as the favorite as On3 Sports recruiting experts Allen Trieu and Ethan McDowell logged a prediction in favor of the Wolverines.
Torbert ranks as high as No. 70 overall in the 2027 recruiting class, No. 10 among cornerbacks, and no. 3 from Ohio. This past season, he logged 40 tackles, three interceptions, and three pass breakups.
