Louisville football’s 2027 recruiting class was on a bit of a skid, as the Cardinals lost multiple big-time commitments in the summer months. The Cardinals lost a couple of 3-star commitments early on, but then a 4-star Louisville native gut-wrenched the Cardinals and flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt.
Then, following Evans' flip, 4-star wide receiver Chuck Alexander Jr. flipped to Ohio State, making Louisville slide outside the top 40 in 247 Sports Recruiting Team Rankings. However, Louisville appears to be on the right track again, as their top-ranked commitment Ja’Hyde Brown continues to get praise and recognition.
Louisville’s 4-star commitment soared in the rankings recently, making him the Cardinals' newest top-ranked commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, and earlier today the 4-star recruit just got even more recognition from MaxPreps.
Louisville's Ja'Hyde Brown named the best in the state
Brown is one of the biggest rising stars in the 2027 recruiting class. The Louisville native was originally committed to Indiana, but decommitted and ultimately flipped his commitment to Jeff Brohm and the Louisville Cardinals.
When he committed to Louisville, he was ranked as high as No. 409 in the nation and the No. 49 wide receiver. Now, after a dominant offseason, Brown ranks as high as No. 66 in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 11 among wide receivers.
However, the eye-popping rise doesn’t stop there. Brown committed to Louisville and was ranked as high as No. 5 in the state of Kentucky, and while he ranks as high as No. 2 in the state by recruiting rankings, MaxPreps just gave him even more flowers by ranking him the No. 1 overall recruit from Kentucky.

The Oklahoma commit Seneca Driver is the consensus No. 1 recruit from Kentucky according to ESPN, On3 Sports, Rivals, and 247 Sports; however, MaxPreps just bumped Brown ahead of Driver and ranked the Louisville commit the best in the state.
Brown has a real chance to be a 5-star by the time he officially signs, but Brohm and Vince Marrow just have to make sure that when he signs, it is with Louisville. Kentucky, Alabama, Auburn, Arizona State, Georgia, Oklahoma, Oregon, Ole Miss, Texas, Texas Tech, and UCLA have all reached out to Brown since his impressive offseason, and Louisville can’t lose Brown like they lost Evans.
The 5-10, 185-pound wide receiver is emerging as one of the best recruits in the nation, and MaxPreps just made that clear. Brown attends Christian Academy of Louisville, where he logged 98 catches for 1,556 yards and 24 touchdowns this past junior season.
