Louisville football is looking to make a big splash on Thursday, June 18, as the Cardinals learned one of their top targets is scheduled to announce his college decision.
Predicting 2 Louisville football commits coming this week after huge recruiting surge
Louisville is looking to get back on track for this 2027 recruiting class, as the Cardinals are on a bit of a skid this week so far. Louisville had three commitments take official visits over the past weekend, and quickly, two of the three decommitted, including 3-star Brooklyn Maxey, who flipped his commitment to Kansas State.
Louisville is looking to have its third top-25 recruiting class in program history, and Thursday is shaping up to be a big day for the Cardinals. It was announced Wednesday that 3-star recruit and Kentucky native Dre'Mail Carothers is set to announce his college decision Thursday, putting the Cardinals in a heated battle with North Carolina and USF.
In-state 3-star QB Dre'Mail Carothers set to announce decision Thursday
The Cardinals are seeking their first quarterback commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, and Carothers has emerged as Jeff Brohm's glaring No. 1 target at the quarterback position. The 3-star recruit recently took an official visit to Louisville the first weekend of June, and before that, he visited North Carolina.
Now, the two ACC schools appear to be in a heated recruiting battle as the 3-star Kentucky native is set to announce his college decision today.

Carothers is the state's top quarterback prospect as the Owensboro native ranks as high as No. 10 among Kentucky recruits in 247Sports recruiting rankings. Carothers ranks as high as No. 882 in the 2027 recruiting rankings and No. 37 among quarterbacks.
Louisville had a 4-star quarterback committed in the 2027 recruiting class, but Jack Sorgi ultimately decommitted from the Cards and flipped his commitment to his father's alma mater, the Wisconsin Badgers. Sorgi was Louisville's first commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, and now that he is officially a Badger, Brohm has quickly made Carothers his new No. 1 QB target in the 2027 class.
The Kentucky native plays for Owensboro Catholic High School and is coming off an All-State season. The 3-star quarterback earned a spot on Kentucky's All-State Second-Team after leading the state in passing yards with a dominant 4,022 passing yards. He also threw 49 touchdowns to just eight interceptions, and completed an impressive 67.2 percent of his passes this junior season.
As of right now, On3 Sports gives Louisville the best chance to land Carothers on the day of his decision day. The 3-star quarterback has earned over 14 offers leading up to Thursday, including from other programs like Kentucky and Oregon State. However, On3 Sports lists this as an ACC recruiting battle, with Louisville at 91.9 percent and UNC at 4.1 percent.
Carothers will announce his decision at 2 p.m. local time. Louisville has 16 commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, and hopefully, by the end of the day, they land their first QB commitment of the class.
