Louisville football is trending with a few 2027 recruits at the moment. The Cardinals and Jeff Brohm are looking to end this mini-skid after losing two commitments this week.
Predicting 2 Louisville football commits coming this week after huge recruiting surge
Louisville has 16 commitments in its 2027 recruiting class as of right now, but On3 Sports recently updated a recruiting profile for one of the Cardinals' top targets, and Louisville got a massive update. The Cardinals are in a recruiting battle with ACC foe North Carolina for 3-star quarterback Dre'mail Carothers, and on Wednesday, Louisville learned that the Kentucky native is scheduled to make his decision Thursday, June 18, at 2 p.m. local time.
With Carothers making his decision, On3 Sports gave an update on his recruiting process, and Louisville got the exact update they were hoping for.
Louisville emerges as heavy favorite for 3-star Dre'mail Carothers
This emerged as an ACC recruiting battle between Louisville and North Carolina, with both programs earning visits in consecutive weekends. The Tar Heels were the first of the two to receive an official visit, as Bill Belichick had Carothers on campus on May 29, and following that UNC visit, Carothers returned to his home state to visit Louisville on June 5.
Now, after those two visits and leading up to his decision, Louisville appears to be the dominant favorite. Earlier this week, the Cardinals were the slight favorite with a 36.5 percent chance of landing Carothers, and UNC was right behind at 32 percent.
However, that has drastically changed. Now, with Carothers' decision just hours away, On3 Sports updated its projection cast, and Louisville now has a dominant 91.9 percent chance of landing the state's top quarterback prospect, and North Carolina has just a 4.1 percent chance, according to On3 Sports.
Ever since 4-star quarterback Jack Sorgi decommitted from Louisville and flipped his commitment to Wisconsin, Carothers has quickly emerged as Brohm's clear No. 1 QB target in the 2027 cycle. The 3-star QB is coming off a dominant junior campaign, earning a spot on the state's All-Second Team.
Carothers attends Owensboro Catholic High School, and the 6-foot-4, 195-pound quarterback led the state in passing yards with an impressive 4,022 yards. He also threw 49 touchdowns and just eight interceptions, while completing 62.7 percent of his passes this past season.
The Cards have already landed 16 commitments in the 2027 class, including five recruits from the state of Kentucky. Louisville has prioritized the state of Kentucky, as Brohm has landed three of the top five recruits from the state, including Allen Evans, who ranks No. 2 in the state.
