Louisville basketball fans heard Pat Kelsey address the possibility of adding another piece to this roster earlier this month. The Cardinals' head coach spoke about Louisville looking at other targets, stating he loves the team and loves the team they built, but you have to stay vigilant.
“But this craziness that's going on, you have to stay vigilant,” stated Kelsey. “I would be not doing my job, and I would be asleep at the wheel, if you're not staying attentive to what's going on out there."
Now, it is being reported that the Cardinals are targeting an elite 3-point shooter and are looking to add a piece they need to improve this team's chances. Louisville is reportedly in a recruiting battle with Kentucky and others for Minnesota transfer Cade Tyson.

For those who need a refresher, a Colorado judge granted a preliminary injunction for outgoing seniors, which now allows the class of 2022 to have a fifth year of eligibility. So, now Kelsey stated he is not “asleep at the wheel” and is staying “attentive.”
One of the transfers following this ruling with whom Louisville is reportedly in contact is the Minnesota transfer. The Cardinals are battling Kentucky, Kansas, LSU, Michigan, NC State, and others, as all have reached out and are looking to try and add the 3-point specialist.

Tyson is coming off one of the most improved seasons in college basketball, as the North Carolina transfer averaged 2.6 points per game with the Tar Heels and then transferred to Minnesota, where he most recently averaged 19.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, and 2.1 assists per game while shooting 50 percent from the field nd 41.3 percent from beyond the arc.
The Cardinals could use a lethal 3-point shooter to help space out the floor, and Tyson would bring just that. He averaged 2.2 made 3s per game, while making 71 total 3-pointers on the season. Before his lone season with UNC in 2024-25, he spent his first two years with Belmont, where, in his true freshman season, he made 48 3s on 41.7 percent shooting from downtown and a career-high 80 3s on an impressive 46.5 percent shooting from 3-point range.
Tyson is a knockdown 3-point specialist and is exactly what Louisville needs if they want to add a piece. The 6-foot-7, 195-pound small forward has the height to shoot over a defender and the skill to take over a game.
Last year with Minnesota, he scored 20 points or more in 15 games, 25 points or more in five games, 30 points or more in two games, and his career-high 38-point performance against Texas Southern. He made three or more 3s in 13 games, and five or more 3-pointers in three games, including a 20-point performance after making five 3s against the National Champions, Michigan; a 27-point performance after making 7-of-10 3s against Rutgers; and his 38-point performance against Texas Southern after shooting 8-of-12 from downtown.
Tyson is the perfect fit, and if this report is accurate and the Cardinals are in contact, Louisville fans should be excited about this one and all in on adding the elite sharpshooter.
