The Cardinals take on North Carolina State in a few hours, but some concerning news just dropped about Louisville’s top commitment. The Cardinals currently have 17 commitments in the 2027 recruiting class, including multiple 4-stars and multiple recruits from their home state.

Louisville football 4-star commit Ja'Hyde Brown gets another major rankings boost

Among those two categories, 4-star phenom Ja’Hyde Brown stands out from the rest. The Louisville native not only ranks as the Cardinals' highest-rated commitment in the 2027 recruiting class, but the 4-star wide receiver has also emerged as one of the best prospects in the nation.

However, with his eye-popping rise in the 2027 recruiting class, powerhouse programs are trying to rip him from Jeff Brohm and Louisville. And two SEC programs appear to be picking up some steam.

Ja'Hyde Brown is taking a visit to Florida this weekend

Earlier this year, rumors suggested the Louisville commit was in conversation with multiple programs after his insane rise in the 2027 recruiting class. However, with his loyalty answers to Brohm and the rumors slowly dying down, it looked like the 4-star was no longer on flip watch.

Well, that all just changed. On3 Sports and Rivals' Steve Wiltfong just reported that the 4-star wide receiver is taking an official visit to Florida this weekend, October 4-6.

Brown is having a dominant 2026 senior season so far for Christian Academy of Louisville, with 22 receiving touchdowns through seven games and only 17 full quarters played. He was ranked No. 252 in the nation and the No. 49 wide receiver, but after winning MVP at Rivals Final Opening, he jumped to No. 66.

Now, he is emerging as a potential 5-star recruit in the 2027 recruiting class, as he just jumped again, ranking as high as No. 5 among wide receivers and No. 32 in the nation.

Louisville fans are keeping a close eye on this race, as Wiltfong not only reports that Florida is hosting the Cardinals' 4-star recruit, but also states Louisville “may have a real fight on their hands to keep him.” He also reported that Texas is another SEC program in conversations with Brown, as is the Cardinals' in-state rival Kentucky.

All hands are on deck right now for the 4-star commitment, as this is one the Cardinals don’t want to lose. He can make an immediate impact in Jeff Brohm’s offense, and the Cardinals have already lost multiple 4-star commitments, including quarterback Jack Sorgi to Wisconsin and 4-star cornerback and Louisville native Allen Evans to Vanderbilt.
