Louisville football steamrolled Florida State in Friday night's win, 44-20. The Cardinals fell behind early, 14-0 after the first quarter, and FSU was on the doorstep of making it 21-0. However, the Cards stopped FSU and turned the ball over on downs, and after that huge defensive stop, it was all Louisville.

Louisville just got the Isaac Brown performance they desperately needed

Isaac Brown quickly made history on the very next play, rushing for 97 yards and scoring Louisville’s first touchdown, which became the longest play in Louisville football history. Brown was in dire need of a dominant performance, and that's exactly what happened.

After his 97-yard touchdown, he didn’t slow down and went on to have a historic performance. A performance like that hasn’t happened since 1993.

The Cardinals star running back entered the season with heavy preseason hype. He ranked as high as No. 5 among running backs and No. 35 overall in ESPN preseason rankings and was also named a preseason All-American.

However, he got off to a slow start in the first four weeks, rushing for 70 yards or less in every game, including 36 against Ole Miss and 33 against Wake Forest. Well, Louisville fans have been waiting for the Isaac Brown game, and he delivered last night.

Brown finished with a dominant 235 rushing yards, seven receiving yards, and a 71-yard kickoff return, for an eye-popping 313 all-purpose yards. Brown’s 313 all-purpose yards is another milestone that etches his name in Louisville football’s record books, as it is the third-most all-purpose yards in a single game in program history and the most since 1993.

The star running back has etched his name into Louisville’s record books for multiple records, including the two from last night. On top of his 97-yard touchdown and 313 all-purpose yards, Brown broke the program's record for most rushing yards from a true freshman with 1,173 rushing yards; he tied Lamar Jackson with 100 rushing yards or more in five games, and in that impressive freshman season he was the first Cardinal in program history to be named both the ACC Rookie of the Year and ACC Offensive Rookie of the Year.

Brown’s performance Friday night is the most rushing yards by any college football player in the 2026 season, and it came at the perfect time. The Cardinals desperately needed a win, and when his number was called, he didn’t let anyone down, averaging 13.8 yards per carry and finishing with two touchdowns.
