Louisville basketball struck gold Sunday afternoon when Pat Kelsey made history and earned the Cardinals' biggest commitment in program history. The Cardinals earned a commitment from 2027 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr., marking the highest-rated commitment from a high school player in Louisville's modern recruiting history.

The Cardinals then got even better news when Ekezie also announced that he will reclass and be a huge boost for the 2026-27 season, as he plans to reclass into the 2026 recruiting cycle. So, now Kelsey’s roster is quickly emerging as a real National Title contender with Ekezie on the roster, and the 5-star commit revealed he has an awesome plan in place with Flory Bidunga.

Louisville already landed a 5-star center as Kelsey earned the commitment from the No. 1 overall transfer in the portal, Flory Bidunga. Now that Ekezie has joined the roster, some fans may question what the roster or lineups will look like.

Well, Ekezie made it clear when he committed that he plans not just to play the center position, but to develop and grow at the power forward position and to be part of a dominant frontcourt with Bidunga.

“I chose Louisville because it has everything I need in terms of winning and development," Bidunga stated, according to On3 Sports Joe Tipton. "I have a great opportunity to develop and showcase my game at both the 4 and 5 alongside Flory Bidunga. Louisville already feels like home to me and we’re going to be an incredibly competitive team. We’re striving to win a National Championship.”

The Cardinals' frontcourt was their biggest weakness this past season, and Kelsey is trying to leave no doubt about this frontcourt next season. Bidunga and Ekezie are two dominant rim-protectors, as Ekezie averaged 1.8 blocks per game last season, and Bidunga ranked in the top five in Division I basketball with 91 blocks and 2.6 blocks per game.

Ekezie ranked as the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class and No. 1 among centers, and now he is pairing up with one of the best centers in college basketball from this past season. Louisville is gaining serious Final Four buzz this offseason, and with Ekezie and Bidunga leading this frontcourt, the 5-star commitment is already revealing he is open to playing some power forward minutes.
