Louisville basketball has some big changes coming next season, as the 2026-27 Cardinals won’t look the same as the 2025-26 Cardinals. Louisville has already lost eight players from this past season's roster, and Pat Kelsey has also seen two coaches leave.

Just yesterday, Kelsey hired his Assistant Coach position with former Campbell head coach John Andrzejek. It certainly is an eye-popping hire, as Andrzejek had a major role with Florida as their Assistant Coach and “defensive coordinator,” and the Gators posted a dominant 60-16 record when he was with the team, including wins in the 2025 National Title and the SEC Conference Tournament Title.
So, the Cardinals are excited about the Andrzejek hire, and the new assistant coach made it clear he is excited to be a Cardinal as well.
Pat Kelsey’s new assistant sends message Louisville fans will love
It was announced on April 1 that Louisville will hire Andrzejek, and the former Campbell head coach will step down from the Fighting Camels. Kelsey’s newest assistant coach made a great first impression on the Cardinals fans as his first message on social media following the announcement was exactly what Louisville fans want to hear.
"Cannot wait to get out there and get to work!!!" Andrzejek posted on social media.
Cannot wait to get out there and get to work!!! #GoCards

The Cardinals are excited to have Andrzejek on the staff, as Florida was ranked in the 90s on defense before he was hired, but after he was hired, Florida became a top-10 defensive efficiency team. The excitement around the hiring of Andrzejek doesn’t just stop with the defense, though.
The Cardinals' glaring weakness the past couple of seasons has been their defense and its frontcourt. Louisville’s bigs have struggled the past couple of seasons, but hopefully, Andrzejek is a big reason Louisville can bring in some physical frontcourt players. Andrzejek likes to coach players with size and length, which gives fans some hope that this offseason, Louisville will prioritize its frontcourt's glaring flaws.
Louisville fans have high expectations for Kelsey and Andrzejek this offseason as they will have $8-10 million to work with. The Cards are hoping Andrzejek can elevate Louisville’s frontcourt presence and defense as he did with Florida, and the Cardinals can snap their Sweet Sixteen drought since 2015 and National Title drought since 2013.
