Louisville basketball’s 2026-27 season is quickly approaching, which also means recruiting is really ramping up. The Cardinals have landed multiple visits from some of the nation’s top prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, and with some recruits eyeing a commitment announcement soon, things are heating up as we enter October.
Louisville's No. 1 target is clear after 5-star guard King Gibson's update
When you look at some of the prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, a few 5-stars really stand out, like Reese Alston, CJ Rosser, and others. But one prospect Pat Kelsey has put the Cardinals in a great position with is 5-star forward DeMarcus Henry.
Henry recently cut his list to just eight schools, but in recent news, Louisville fans learned that list is now down to seven as one team is no longer pursuing the 5-star.
UConn is out on Louisville 5-star target DeMarcus Henry
Over the summer, Louisville made the 5-star final eight schools, putting the Cardinals in a recruiting battle with Kentucky, Arkansas, BYU, Kansas, North Carolina, Ohio State, and UConn. However, the Cardinals just got some intriguing news: that list is down to seven, as the rumor is UConn is no longer in the mix.
On Sunday, UConn landed 5-star Jordan Page, and after the Huskies landed the small forward, multiple sources, including Joe Tipton and Adam Zagoria, reported that UConn is no longer in on Henry.
“UConn is no longer involved for Henry after they landed fellow five-star on Sunday,” stated Zagoria.
Louisville is trending as one of the top candidates for Henry, as the Cardinals have hosted the 5-star for an official visit in September and visited Henry later that month. Tipton gives Arkansas a slight edge right now, but he also believes Louisville is among the top contenders, right behind the Razorbacks.
Henry took an official visit to Arkansas and UConn, and just took an official visit to Kentucky this past weekend. So, UConn being out of the mix is huge for Louisville, since the Huskies were also one of Henry's top options.
The 5-star forward ranks as high as No. 2 overall in the 2027 recruiting class and is the unanimous No. 1 small forward. He is coming off an eye-popping run at the Nike EYBL Peach Jam event, where he averaged 18.2 points, 8.0 rebounds, 2.2 assists, and 1.2 steals per game this summer.
The recruiting process for this top-five overall recruit is heating up, and many insiders are looking at November for a potential commitment timeline. So, Louisville fans, keep your eyes on Henry and these updates, as he is one Kelsey and the Cardinals are making a strong push for and have a legitimate chance to land.
