Louisville basketball has been pushing for multiple recruits in the 2027 recruiting class, but the Cardinals just learned one target committed elsewhere. Pat Kelsey has been traveling across the country over the past few months, watching some of the top targets in action at summer camps.
Louisville basketball faces major competition for No. 2 recruit DeMarcus Henry
One recruit Louisville was making a strong push for was 5-star forward Moussa Kamissoko. The elite small forward is a top-10 overall recruit in the nation, but after a recent visit to an ACC rival, the 5-star has ultimately decided to commit to Syracuse before his official visit to Louisville.
5-star Moussa Kamissoko commits to Syracuse
The Cardinals were trending as one of his top schools leading up to his visit to Syracuse. The 5-star forward lined up nine official visits for this fall, including one to Louisville in October. However, it appears Louisville might not even get to host the small forward, as he made his decision after just his second official visit.

Kamissoko earned over 21 offers in his recruiting process before making his decision. Louisville was one of those 21 offers, and nine of those schools were scheduled for an official visit. The 5-star forward had already visited Florida State, Syracuse, Virginia, Oklahoma State, BYU, and Illinois, and he was scheduled to visit UConn this weekend, Louisville next weekend, and Baylor in the middle of October.
Louisville will likely not get that visit anymore since the 5-star just committed to Louisville’s ACC rival. It was a big get for the Orange, as Kamissoko ranks as high as No. 8 overall and No. 3 among small forwards.
Kamissoko made it clear he was interested in the Cardinals, telling the Cardinal Authority he liked how Kelsey developed Mikel Brown Jr. into an NBA lottery pick, stating, “I watched a lot of Louisville last year with Mikel Brown Jr., and they let him rock. I want to step into that role as well."
While it stings to see the 5-star commit to an ACC program a week before Louisville’s visit, the Cardinals have their eyes on multiple top-10 recruits. Louisville is in the mix for No. 1 overall recruit CJ Rosser and the No. 9 overall recruit Reese Alston. The Cardinals have already hosted Alston for an official visit and remain the frontrunner, while they are in Rosser’s final seven and withan official visit scheduled in October.
Keep your eyes open Louisville fans, because while they missed out on Kamissoko, they are in the mix for many others.
