Miami's path to ACC Title doesn't look nearly as easy as major threat emerges

Louisville football is making a lot of noise right now in college football, as the Cardinals rank No. 16 in the AP Polls after their 41-31 win on Saturday. Louisville is 2-1 after the program's first-ever win over SMU, and the Cardinals are looking like a legit threat in the ACC.

Entering the season, everyone talked only about Miami in the ACC, and no one really gave the Cardinals a fair chance. The Hurricanes were the unanimous pick to win the ACC and to represent the conference in the College Football Playoffs, but after three weeks, it is crystal clear that the Cardinals are a legit threat.

Right now, Miami is still the heavy favorite to win the ACC, but the Cardinals are slowly turning heads. They first got everyone’s attention with their impressive Week 1 performance against Ole Miss. Lincoln Kienholz was a star in the second half and led Louisville to tie the game up under two minutes. While Ole Miss ultimately won by three, the Rebels just upset LSU and now rank No. 4 in the nation, making that loss look even better.

Now, Louisville just upset SMU, and the Cardinals are emerging as a major threat to Miami. The Cardinals' offense is looking like one of the top units in the country behind Kienholz and this elite running back duo, and now Miami better watch out.

“Louisville best running back tandem in the country, and they are only going to get better,” stated Marcello. “The one thing is, if the defense does get better, this is going to be a team that I think could actually challenge Miami. Because Lincoln Kienholz has become one of the better quarterbacks in the ACC, and I would argue one of the top 20, maybe top 15, quarterbacks in the country, and he is just now getting into his third or fourth game as a full-time starter. So, I love this Louisville team.”

The Cardinals and the Hurricanes don’t play each other this year, but if they do meet in Charlotte, the Hurricanes better watch out. It isn’t a cakewalk, as many may think, and Miami fans should know that because of what happened last year on their home field.

This Louisville team is physical, fast, and has an extremely explosive offense. Through three games, Kienholz has thrown for 816 yards, six touchdowns, and has yet to make a turnover. His top targets have been Lawayne McCoy, with three touchdowns and 226 receiving yards, and Tre Richardson, with two total touchdowns and 243 receiving yards.

Then you get to the rushing attack. The Cardinals have an elite triple threat in Isaac Brown, a preseason All-American with 164 yards; Keyjuan Brown, who just had a career game with 163 rushing yards against SMU; and, of course, Kienholz, who has 153 rushing yards and leads the team with four rushing touchdowns.

Louisville is earning some major CFP hype after week 3, and now the media is beginning to send a warning to Miami that the conference might not be as easy as they may think. Louisville will face Wake Forest this Saturday, which the Hurricanes beat 33-20 this past weekend at noon local time.
