Louisville basketball gets a huge update from On3 Sports with 4-star transfer De’Shayne Montgomery. The Cardinals recently hosted the electric two-way guard on campus earlier this week, and now, following that visit, On3 Sports has the Cards as the dominant favorite to land Montgomery.

On3 Sports recently updated its prediction for the Dayton transfer, and now gives Louisville a 100 percent chance of earning his commitment. The 4-star transfer visited North Carolina State right before his visit to Louisville and has recently heard from Kentucky. However, following the visit to Louisville, Kelsey is trending toward landing his next commitment, as On3 Sports predicts Louisville fans will hear some good news sooner rather than later.

Louisville basketball heavy favorites for 4-star transfer De’Shayne Montgomery

Louisville desperately needs a two-way player who can not only get red-hot and have an impact on the offensive end, but they need that Chucky Hepburn type of player who can go get them a stop and force a turnover. Well, it appears Kelsey might have found his guy.

Montgomery is coming off a season where he averaged 13.4 points and 2.1 steals per game while shooting 49 percent from the field and 33.5 percent from beyond the arc. He scored 20 points or more in seven games this past season, including a 27-point performance against East Tennessee State. As for the defensive end, he has been known as a defensive menace throughout his career, averaging 1.1 steals per game with Georgia the year prior and 2.1 steals per game in his freshman season with Mount St. Mary's.

This past season with Dayton, the 4-star transfer recorded 3 or more steals in 12 games, including 6 and 7 in separate games. He secured a total of 77 steals in the 2025-26 season, which ranked 11th most in college basketball. The 6-foot-4, 190-pound shooting guard has earned a total of 141 steals in his three seasons.

On top of his points and steals, Montgomery averaged 4.0 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.4 made 3-pointers per game, earning a spot on the All-Atlantic-10 Third Team. He made a career-high 52 3’s this past season, and while 3-point shooting isn’t his best attribute, he had seven games where he splashed 3 or more 3’s.

The Cards appear to be one step closer to landing a key bench piece for this upcoming season. Montgomery will likely serve as a two-way player off the bench behind Adrian Wooley. He ranks as a 4-star transfer, No. 133 overall and No. 24 among shooting guards.
