Louisville basketball continues to make a huge push in the 2027 recruiting class, as Pat Kelsey and his staff just entered the race for another coveted elite recruit. The Cardinals are trending with a handful of prospects in the 2027 recruiting class, including multiple 5-stars like Darius Wabbington and DeMarcus Henry.
Louisville is now joining the race for another top prospect in this coveted class, as Kelsey and his recruiting staff decided to extend an offer to 4-star small forward Asa Montgomery.

Louisville basketball enters heated race for elite 4-star Asa Montgomery
The Cardinals have been making a push for multiple top 50 recruits in the class, and it appears Montgomery is the latest to enter Kelsey’s big board. Louisville is joining a race for an elite forward, as Montgomery has earned over 20 offers, including from notable programs like Auburn, Florida, Alabama, Florida State, LSU, North Carolina, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, and others.
The 4-star Georgia native is one of the biggest risers in the 2027 recruiting class, jumping all the way up to No. 28 in the 2027 cycle, No. 8 among small forwards, and No. 4 among recruits from Georgia. Montgomery has drawn a lot of attention from the Peach Jam event, where another Louisville target, Cayden Daughtry, took over and won MVP after averaging a dominant 32 points per game.
Now, Kelsey and Louisville will also turn their attention to Montgomery after being one of the latest power programs to extend an offer to the 4-star. The top 15 recruit in the nation was one of the top scorers in EYCL, averaging a dominant 27.9 points per game.
The 6-foot-7, 200-pound forward was part of Team USA’s U17 team this year and helped USA Basketball win a gold medal at the 2026 FIBA U17 World Cup, averaging 9.7 points, 4.4 rebounds, 2.1 assists, and 1.3 steals.
Montgomery’s recruiting battle is beginning to really heat up following the gold medal run and his dominant run at EYCL. Since Kelsey arrived at Louisville, he has quickly drawn attention from elite recruits by landing players like Mikel Brown Jr. and Obinna Ekezie Jr., and early in this 2027 recruiting class, he is making some noise, trending with some of the top prospects in this class.
The Cardinals already have one 2027 commitment after landing Louisville native and 4-star recruit Ferlandes Wright. The Louisville commit ranks as high as No. 61 in the nation.
