Louisville basketball and Pat Kelsey are trying to make their big-time splash ASAP in the 2027 recruiting class, and things are beginning to heat up. A lot of notable camps and events just wrapped, and Kelsey and the Cardinals were in attendance to watch some of their top targets.

The 2027 recruiting class is really beginning to heat up, with notable players updating their recruiting lists and talking about the programs that are reaching out the most. Louisville already learned that multiple 5-star recruits updated their recruiting lists, including Darius Wabbington and DeMarcus Henry.

One recruit the Cardinals continue to show a lot of interest in is the elite 5-star point guard Reese Alston. Kelsey has attended multiple games of the 5-star recruits, and it was reported he just attended another over the weekend.

Kelsey is known to recruit elite guards at Louisville, and Alston appears to be one of his top priorities in the 2027 recruiting class. The 5-star point guard is a top 10 overall recruit in the class, and the Cardinals are showing a lot of interest in the Texas native this summer.

Jody Demling of On3 Sports reported earlier last week that Kelsey was in Richmond, Va to watch Alston at the Puma NXTPro 16 event, and Demling reported over the weekend that Kelsey made the trip to Texas to watch the 5-star play at the PRO16/NXTPRO League in Bryan, Texas.

Alston continues to be one of Louisville’s top targets in the 2027 recruiting class, and Kelsey’s summer trips prove that. Alston is one of the top-ranked point guards and recruits in the 2027 cycle, ranking as high as No. 6 overall, No. 2 among point guards, and No. 1 among Texas recruits.

Louisville is one of many programs to extend an offer to the 6-foot-3 point guard. Joining the Cardinals in this heated recruiting battle are 35 other programs and big-time college basketball programs like Kentucky, Houston, Wichita State, Purdue, LSU, Kansas, Tennessee, and others.

On3 Sports Jamie Shaw reported last week that Louisville, Wichita State, and LSU are the three schools making the most noise. Shaw also reported it is worth watching to see if Alston commits sooner rather than later and reclassifies.

The 5-star 2027 point guard would be eligible for the 2027 NBA Draft if he wanted to try to make the draft, or he can play his senior year and be eligible for the 2028 NBA Draft. Louisville continues to make this strong push for the 5-star point guard, and if Kelsey wants to continue to make the push for ‘PGU’, then Alston is a key recruit for the Cardinals.
