Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball are emerging as a top recruiting program in the nation, as Kelsey has quickly brought this program to life since his arrival. Louisville has landed multiple 5-stars since Kelsey arrived, and while it seems far away, the Cardinals are eyeing multiple 2028 superstars.
Louisville has reached out to multiple elite players in this 2028 cycle, including a few Louisville natives. The No. 1 recruit from Kentucky is an elite high-flying guard, Josh Lindsay, who ranks No. 39 in the nation and No. 6 among shooting guards from St. Xavier.
The Cardinals fans have had their eyes on Lindsay for a while now, but Kelsey and Louisville are also looking at other guards in the 2028 cycle, including 5-star point guard Blaze Johnson.
Louisville basketball targeting elite 5-star PG Blaze Johnson
Johnson is one of the top-ranked point guards in the class of 2028, and it was recently reported that Louisville is one of many teams to contact the 5-star guard. The contact period officially opened up on June 15 for the 2028 recruiting class, and Louisville didn’t hesitate to reach out to the Dallas star.
Other notable teams that have reached out since June 15 include Kentucky, Arkansas, Duke, North Carolina State, Stanford, and UCLA.

The 5-star point guard has already earned 16 offers today, including from notable college basketball programs like Alabama, Villanova, Auburn, Providence, Tennessee, Ole Miss, LSU, Florida State, Georgia, Georgia Tech, and others. Now, the Cardinals will look to try and land another elite point guard since Kelsey arrived, and it appears Louisville is targeting Johnson.
The 6-foot-4, 185-pound guard is ranked as high as a 5-star point guard, No. 16 overall, No. 2 among point guards, and No. 3 among recruits from Texas in the 2028 recruiting class. Kelsey is known for recruiting elite guards, as he landed a 5-star recruit and the No. 1 point guard in the 2025 class, Mikel Brown Jr., and is now eyeing his next elite point guard.
Kelsey made a bold claim, stating the Cardinals are ‘PGU’, and a guard like Johnson would certainly boost his claim. Johnson is an elite scorer who can score off the dribble and off a pass from beyond the arc. The Cardinals are taking advantage of the contact period opening up in the 2028 recruiting class, and Johnson is one of their newest targets on Kelsey’s Big Board.
