Louisville basketball gets an eye-popping update with one of its top targets remaining in the 2026 recruiting class. Boyuan Zhang was recently on campus for an official visit, and it appears Louisville is making a legitimate, strong push for the 4-star, as 247Sports updated the 4-star's recruiting profile.

The Cardinals are in a recruiting battle with four other programs right now, as Oregon, Minnesota, Illinois, and Cal all earned official visits from Zhang. However, Louisville is the most recent team to host him for an official visit, as he arrived on campus on May 8, and 247 Sports updated his profile, where Louisville has “warm” next to its name, while everyone else, even the four other teams that hosted him for an official visit, has “cool” next to their name.

Louisville basketball trending with 4-star Boyuan Zhang

The Cardinals are making a push in the recruiting class at the moment, landing 2027 5-star Obinna Ekezie Jr., who also announced he would reclass to the 2026 recruiting class. Just yesterday, Isaac Ellis announced he will join Ekezie Jr. and will also reclass from the 2027 class to the 2026 class.

So, Kelsey’s roster is beginning to fill out. He has six commitments from the Transfer Portal, two commitments from the 2026 class, and has two players from last year return. So, now Kelsey needs a wing who can play behind Karter Knox, and it appears Louisville is trending in the right direction for Zhang.

The 4-star averaged the second-most points in the Nike EYBL Scholastic League with 20.2 points per game while also adding 5.7 rebounds. He ranks as a 4-star small forward, No. 57 overall in the 2026 recruiting class, and No. 20 among small forwards.

Kelsey has had some magic this offseason once he gets a transfer or a recruit on campus for a visit, and 247Sports giving Louisville the update and putting “warm” next to its name has Cards fans hoping Louisville is close to landing a crucial 4-star in the 2026 recruiting class. The 6-foot-7, 220-pound forward is an elite scorer who can score off the dribble and attack the rim with his size.

He is a physical forward who can finish through contact but can also make midrange jumpers. He can shoot from beyond the arc, but this past season, he made 27 of his 92 3-point attempts, so it isn’t a strong suit. He can’t be left wide open.

Louisville is in a crucial recruiting battle with Cal, Minnesota, Illinois, and Oregon, but right now, 247Sports gives Louisville the slight edge over the others following this recent official visit.
