Boom! Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball landed their sixth transfer commitment this offseason, as Gabe Dynes was officially announced just moments ago. Louisville lands its second commitment over its in-state rival for the second straight day, as yesterday the Cards and Kelsey landed 4-star transfer De’Shayne Montgomery over Kentucky and some others, and today Louisville just landed Dynes over the Wildcats.

Pat Kelsey and Louisville basketball fills glaring need with latest 4-star commitment

It was reported yesterday that Louisville and Kentucky were the heavy favorites for Dynes, with the Cardinals as the “clear frontrunner”, according to Joe Tipton. And just a couple of days following Dynes' visit to Louisville, he ultimately chose the Cardinals over the Wildcats.

The Cardinals have been absolutely dominant this offseason, ranking No. 1 in the portal class rankings. Kelsey’s rebuild lands his sixth transfer commitment, as Dynes will serve as Flory Bidunga’s backup center and will be an elite rim protector off the bench.

The USC transfer played just 11.9 minutes per game this past season and averaged 2.9 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.0 blocks. However, when he gets real-time minutes and a chance to play, as he did at Youngstown State, the Cardinals fans will see he has a chance to be a beast off the bench on the defensive end.

The Cardinals needed to get some defense this offseason, and Kelsey is doing just that. Bidunga ranked in the top five this past season in total blocks and blocks per game, and the year prior, Louisville’s newest commitment, Dynes, ranked No. 2 with 104 total blocks and No. 3 with 3.1 blocks per game.

The 7-foot-5 center is a dominant rim protector, as in his three seasons, he has totaled 196 blocks. In that sophomore season at Youngstown State, he made the Horizon League All-Defensive Team and averaged 6.8 points, 5.8 rebounds, and 3.1 blocks while shooting 69.9 percent from the field.

Dynes is from Independence, Ky., where he played his senior season at Simon Kenton High School, averaging 12.5 points and 9.8 rebounds while shooting around 75 percent from the floor. It is a good pickup for a bench piece for Kelsey, and earning the Kentucky native’s commitment over Mark Pope and the Kentucky Wildcats just makes it that much better.
