Louisville basketball had a busy recruiting month in August, adding multiple recruits to its updated recruiting lists. Pat Kelsey and his staff made strong pushes for multiple top-30 overall recruits, including some of the nation’s top guards in the 2027 recruiting class.
Louisville is trending with multiple 5-star point guards, including Reese Alston and Cayden Daughtry. Right now, the Cardinals appear to be all-in on Alston, as Kelsey already landed an official visit from the No. 7 overall recruit in the cycle, and now it appears he has a dream plan of pairing him up with 4-star Chase Lumpkin.
The 4-star guard recently updated his list and included the Cardinals, and now just moments ago, Sam Kayser reported that the Cardinals are one of two programs scheduled to earn an official visit from the guard this month.

Kelsey has been making a strong push for some of the nation’s top guards, including Lumpkin. The 4-star ranks as a point guard, combo guard, and shooting guard, and with the Cards all-in on Alston, it would make sense if Kelsey is trying to pair the two up in his backcourt for next season.
The 6-foot-5 guard recently cut his list down to just six schools, putting the Cardinals in a fierce recruiting battle with Kentucky, Michigan, Alabama, USC, and Arkansas. And now, the Cardinals will host the 4-star on September 26, according to Kayser.

Kayser also reports that Alabama will host the guard for an official visit this weekend, September 5, and that USC and Michigan have already held the 4-star for an official visit. However, Kelsey has worked some magic with recruits once they get on campus, and with Louisville hosting him later this month, hopefully the Cardinals coach can carry that magic from this offseason into this upcoming recruiting surge.
Lumpkin is a unanimous 4-star prospect who earned over 31 offers from big-time college basketball teams that didn’t make his updated list, such as Tennessee, Oregon, Auburn, Georgia, Florida State, Ole Miss, UCLA, Indiana, Miami, Iowa, UConn, and others. The 4-star guard ranks as high as No. 26 overall, No. 5 among shooting guards, No. 6 among combo guards, and No. 8 among point guards.
Kelsey has been known to recruit heavily for the guard position, and with the 2027 recruiting class, it appears he is doing so again. The Cardinals are making some noise with some of the nation’s top prospects, and with Lumpkin taking an official visit to Louisville after making his final six, it is clear Kelsey is serious about the 4-star guard.
Lumpkin played for Jet Academy in the Nike EYBL Circuit and averaged 17.3 points, 5.7 rebounds, 4.5 assists, and 2.2 steals per game.
