Louisville basketball defeated the Miami Hurricanes yesterday in a thrilling 92-89 victory. The Cardinals and the Hurricanes went back and forth in the final moments of the game, but thanks to a huge stepback 3-pointer by Adrian Wooley, Louisville picked up its first road win over a ranked team since Jan. 18, 2020.
Louisville basketball finally breaks six-year curse with massive win over Miami
Louisville will now turn its attention to the 2026 ACC Tournament, as the Cardinals' path is set and the conference tourney begins on Tuesday, March 10, with Louisville’s first game against the winner of SMU vs Syracuse on Wednesday, March 11. With the regular season over and the Cards' postseason just three days away, the biggest question is Mikel Brown Jr.’s status.
Pat Kelsey says Mikel Brown Jr. remains day-to-day ahead of ACC Tournament
Pat Kelsey was asked about Brown after Louisville’s road win over the Hurricanes, and the Cardinals' head coach confirmed Brown is “day-to-day” and that they do not have a “timetable” for the Cards' 5-star freshman.
“It is one of those day-to-day things,” Kelsey stated on Brown after Louisville’s win over Miami. “We are just seeing how he progresses. Really, just took the mindset after that Clemson game that we are just going to get him back to 100 percent. When he is there, he will be back in there. I don’t have a timetable, but it continues to be day-to-day.”
Brown has missed the last two games with a back injury and has missed a total of 10 games, including eight straight from Dec. 13 until Jan. 24. The Cardinals' 5-star freshman reinjured his back in the game against North Carolina, where he was seen falling a few times hard, causing him to come off the bench against Clemson the next game and limited to playing just 21 minutes when he averages around 29 minutes per game.
Louisville’s regular season is now over, and the Cardinals fans will anxiously await to see what Brown’s status is for Wednesday’s matchup for their first game in the ACC Tournament. Brown is second on the team in scoring, as he averaged 18.2 points while leading the team in assists with 4.7 and leading the team in steals with 1.2 per game.
