Louisville basketball is emerging as one of the nation’s top recruiting programs. Ever since Pat Kelsey arrived on campus, he has completely flipped this program around, including production on the floor, the culture, and the Cardinals' recruiting.

Louisville has always landed big-time recruits, but Kelsey has this program buzzing with excitement and attracting some of the nation’s top talent. In the 2025 recruiting class, Louisville landed 5-star point guard Mikel Brown Jr., and with Brown going No. 6 overall in the NBA draft, Louisville now has a blueprint to pitch to these 5-star recruits.

Many recruits are buying into Kelsey and his pitch, as the Cardinals are trending and making noise with multiple top-30 overall recruits.

Louisville basketball is trending with some elite 2027 recruits

Yesterday, Sam Kayser shone a light on Kelsey and what he is doing with the 2027 recruiting class. The Cardinals recently hosted two 5-stars for an official visit, DeMarcus Henry and King Gibson; have already hosted 5-star Reese Alston for an official visit; hosted No. 1 overall recruit CJ Rosser for an unofficial visit; and have visits lined up with 5-star Asa Montgomery, 5-star Moussa Kamissoko, and 4-star Chase Lumpkin.

Kelsey has this program absolutely buzzing, and the attention it is getting from some of the best recruits in the nation shows it. Kelsey has landed two 5-stars in consecutive years with Brown and Obinna Ekezie Jr., and both are two of the three highest-rated commitments in program history. And actually, Ekezie was the highest-rated commitment in program history at the time he committed, as he was the No. 2 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class, but he was reclassified to the 2026 recruiting class, which dropped his rating.

But now, Kelsey is looking to build on that momentum from Brown going No. 6 overall, and he is targeting some of the nation’s top recruits. Not only is he landing on these 'recruits' updated recruiting lists, but he's also landing visits from them.

Right now, Louisville is in Alston’s final seven, Henry’s final eight, Lumpkin’s final six, Gibson’s final 10, and the No. 3 overall recruit, Cayden Daughtry’s final 14. There is a lot to be excited about right now when it comes to Louisville basketball and recruiting, and more specifically, this 2027 recruiting class.

It is still early in the recruiting phase for many of these big-time prospects, but the fact that Kelsey has the Cardinals on their updated recruiting lists and has earned official visits is a huge sign of his recruiting ability and where this program is heading since he arrived.
