Louisville basketball turnaround this season is one that has shocked the nation, and is becoming maybe the 2024-2025 headline of the year.
Cardinals had a 12-52 record under Kenny Payne in his two years at UofL, including 8-24 this last season, and 4-28 the year prior. Payne was released from Louisville, and would be replaced by current head coach, Pat Kelsey.
Pat Kelsey came into Louisville with a great resume, and immediately his reputation was brought to Cardinals nation as he brought in 13 transfers in the offseason. Louisville basketball is on the verge of winning 20 games this season, which would be the first time since 2020.
Pat Kelsey is working wonders with Chucky Hepurn and this Cardinals team, and the numbers and results are showing. Louisville basketball just passed a major milestone from last nights win, and Cardinals fans are thrilled to see the direction this program is trending towards.
Pat Kelsey's magic sparks Louisville basketball's historic rise
Louisville basketball dominant win last night over North Carolina State marked the Cardinals 12th win, which means this UofL team just won more ACC games this season then last three seasons combined.
Pat Kelsey has made an immediate impact on Louisville basketball program, as the program was last in the ACC last year with an embarrassing 3-17 record in conference play and 8-24 overall, and the year prior, Cardinals were even worse with a 2-18 record in the ACC and 4-28 overall. Their 2021-2022 season wasn't much better going 6-14 in ACC, and 13-19 overall, which means this win last night passed their total wins in the ACC in last three seasons combined.
UofL was 11-49 in the last three seasons, and Pat Kelsey comes into this program and flipped the program completely around and has Louisville basketball 12-2 in the ACC. Cardinals are seeking their most ACC wins since 2019-2020 season when they ended 15-5 in the ACC, and 24-7 overall.
The Cardinals 12 wins this season in the ACC ties for second most wins in the ACC for the program history. Louisville need to win just four of their final six games to break the record. Louisville final six opponents have a combined ACC record of 35-45. Louisville was predicted by Jay Williams to win out, which means Cardinals would shatter the program record, and finish the season 18-2 in the ACC.
This Cardinals team isn't just winning games though, they are dominating their opponents as they have won by a total of 326 points, which is by an average of 17.7 points per game and they are scoring an average of 79 points per game.
Louisville will look take one step closer into the history books, and secure their 13th ACC win Saturday, Feb. 5 at Notre Dame.
