Louisville football fans learned on Friday that the Cardinals lost their top recruit in the 2027 recruiting class, Allen Evans. The 4-star Louisville native was the Cardinals' highest-rated commitment in the 2027 class, ranked as a top-100 recruit in the 2027 cycle, and the sixth-highest commitment in program history.
Louisville football suffers gut-wrenching blow as top 4-star flips commitment to Vanderbilt
Evans is coming off a dominant junior season and was ranked No. 76 in the nation and No. 9 among cornerbacks. He didn't give up a single touchdown in the junior season, which was a major reason he is ranked as the second-best recruit out of Kentucky in this 2027 class.
However, the Cards learned he flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt, absolutely gut-wrenching the Cardinals and their 2027 class. Louisville's Executive Director of Football Personnel and Recruiting, Vince Marrow, is known for being active on social media, and a day after Evans announced his commitment flip, Marrow went on social media to tell Louisville fans not to panic just yet.

Obviously, losing Evans was a gut-wrenching blow. No one ever wants to lose their top-ranked commitment, especially when it is a hometown recruit. The Cardinals fans had a feeling this was going to happen, but Marrow was quick to break the silence and give Louisville fans the reassurance they wanted.
"I’m playing chess not checkers," Marrow posted on X. "let’s see what happens when it gets to signing day. Stay tuned Card Nation!"

It won't be easy to replace a local recruit like Evans, especially since he was a local. However, the Cardinals have their eyes on a 4-star cornerback who is actually ranked higher than Evans and is from Marrow's home state, Ohio.
Louisville is making a late push for 4-star Monsanna Torbert Jr., who is ranked No. 70 overall, No. 10 among cornerbacks, and No. 3 from Ohio. Louisville already has five commitments from Ohio, including two 4-stars in Chuck Alexander and D'Angelo White.
Louisville has an uphill battle for Torbert, as they are competing with Michigan and Ohio State for the 4-star, but it shows Jeff Brohm and Marrow want to make a big-time splash after Evans flipped his commitment to Vanderbilt.
So, Marrow's social media post is a bit of reassurance to Louisville fans that the Cardinals aren't going to slow down anytime soon and will look to make that splash. Losing Evans hurts, but Marrow appears to be confident in himself, and Brohm will regroup and climb back up in the 2027 team recruiting rankings by signing day.
