Louisville football is quickly approaching, with the college football season under 50 days away. The Louisville Cardinals are expected to be one of the top teams in the ACC, as earlier this summer CBS Sports' Brad Crawford revealed Louisville is one of three teams in his mind that can win the ACC.
The Cardinals fans are hoping this year Jeff Brohm can not only get Louisville back to Charlotte for the ACC Championship game, but can lead Louisville to its first ACC Title and its first College Football Playoff berth. For the Cardinals to have that type of season, Brohm and Louisville will have to answer some major questions.
Crawford was talking about Louisville again on CBS Sports, and when asked about the Cardinals' biggest question, he made it clear it is the Cards' quarterback play.
College football analyst reveals Louisville football's biggest question
Louisville has a high ceiling this upcoming season. Brohm found a way to keep multiple star players like Isaac Brown and Keyjuan Brown, while also adding elite playmakers like Tre Richardson, Lawayne McCoy and Brody Foley.
But one of the most significant additions was 4-star transfer Lincoln Kienholz from Ohio State. The Cardinals needed to make a splash at quarterback after Miller Moss’ underperforming season, and now, while Kienholz has a high ceiling, he is Louisville’s glaring No. 1 question this offseason.
“My big question is, can Lincoln Kienholz, the transfer from Ohio State, can he be the difference maker in his first season as a Power Four starter?” Crawford stated. “Obviously he lost the job last fall to Julian Sayin, who wound up being a Heisman finalist. Now, gets a chance to lead an offense that has plenty of weapons around him.”
Kienholz transfers to Louisville after ranking as high as No. 187 overall and No. 22 among quarterbacks. Kienholz didn’t get a lot of opportunities with Ohio State, throwing the ball just 36 times, but Ohio State was clearly high on him, going after him and landing him back in the 2023 recruiting class.
Coming out of high school, the South Dakota native was one of the top quarterbacks in the 2023 recruiting class. Kienholz was a 4-star recruit, ranked as high as No. 172 overall and No. 11 among quarterbacks. The Louisville QB was dominant in high school, throwing for 3,422 yards and 46 touchdowns his senior year, and 9,100 yards and 104 touchdowns in his high school career.
“I think he fits into this Louisville scheme quite well, and he could be a guy that challenges for a 3,000-yard passing and 1,000-yard rushing type season if he stays healthy,” stated Crawford on Kienholz at Louisville.
Now, the time is his. Brohm has made it clear he is high on the Cardinals' starting quarterback, and with Louisville eyeing that coveted ACC Title and a berth to the CFP, Kienholz must step up and be that star quarterback Louisville needs.
