Louisville basketball has had an incredible offseason, putting the Cardinals right back in the conversation to compete for a National Title. Last year, the Cardinals didn’t live up to preseason expectations, but Kelsey continues to grow the program and lead it in the right direction.
The Cardinals had the No. 1 Transfer Portal class, after adding seven key transfers, including two top-20 transfers in 5-star Flory Bidunga and 4-star Jackson Shelstad. Now, the Cardinals are getting a lot of attention from national media because of their most recent addition, Seth Trimble.
Trimble is coming off his best season, and it is clear that with the North Carolina transfer committing to Louisville, their ceiling just rose. Sleepers Media's Carter Elliot just made it clear he is all-in on the Cardinals and truly believes this team has what it takes to compete for its first National Championship since 2013.
Louisville basketball continues to earn high praise after massive offseason
Everyone knew Louisville would be extremely active this offseason, but few expected it to this magnitude. The Cardinals turned heads, landing multiple 5-stars in Bidunga and Obinna Ekezie Jr., plus elite transfer guards Shelstad, Trimble, and De'Shayne Montgomery.
The Cardinals have depth, physicality, experience, and everything they need and want to compete for a championship, and Elliot just made that clear with his recent claim on the Cardinals.
“It is just an extremely deep and an extremely talented college basketball team,” stated Elliot after Trimble committed to the Cardinals. “The expectations of this team should be a top-5 team in the sport, should be the Final Four, should be the National Championship. It was all that before Seth Trimble for me, so it definitley should be if you add Seth Trimble.”

Trimble is a major addition to Kelsey’s roster and backcourt. The UNC transfer brings a physical presence at shooting guard, as he will likely guard the best guard on the opposing team. He is coming off his best collegiate season after averaging 1.3 steals per game, on top of averaging 14.0 points, 3.8 rebounds, and 3.0 assists while shooting 47 percent from the field.
Louisville fans recently heard Fox Sports analyst Aaron Torres say that the Cardinals should be in the conversation to be ranked No. 4 or No. 5 in the country, and now, just moments later, another college basketball analyst is saying the same thing.
The hype is real for this Louisville squad, and the Cardinals now have to give the fans what they are starving for: a National Championship. The Cardinals haven’t been to the Final Four or won the National Title since 2013, and can’t claim a Title since 1966. Louisville has the seventh-highest odds to win the 2027 National Title after landing Trimble, and hopefully that drought ends in 2027.
