Donovan Mitchell will etch his name in Louisville basketball's record books Sunday

Former Louisville basketball star, and current Cleveland Cavaliers star, Donovan Mitchell, will participate in his sixth NBA All-Star Game this weekend.

Donovan Mitchell is having one of the best seasons of his career, as the former Louisville basketball guard is averaging 24 points on 39% from deep, with 4.4 rebounds, 4.8 assists, and 1.4 steals per game.

Mitchell and his Cleveland Cavaliers are currently dominating the Eastern conference with a 44-10 record, and hold the No. 1 seed. Mitchell will not only have a personal milestone of playing in is sixth NBA All-Star Game, but he will also etch his name into Louisville basketball record books.

Donovan Mitchell breaks Louisville Basketball NBA All-Star record

Donovan Mitchel will break Louisville basketball's record, as currently he is tied with Wes Unseld for most All-Star Games played in the NBA by former Louisville Cardinals, but on Sunday when he plays in his sixth All-Star Game that will mark history.

Mitchell six All-Star selections have all come in consecutive years, as his first All-Star selection was back 2019-2020 season. Mitchell is listed at 6-foot-3, 215-pounds and is in his eight season in his NBA, third with the Cleveland Cavaliers.

Mitchell's big performance came back in 2023 as the former Cardinals guard had 40 points, while shooting an insane 15-of-25 from the field, 8-of-17 from beyond the arc, and dishing out 10 assists and four rebounds.

His 40 points in an All-Star game is the most points in an All-Star Game by a former Louisville basketball player. His 2023 performance marks the ninth most points in an NBA All-Star Game of all time.

Mitchell averages 17.8 points per game, with 5.0 rebounds, 5.0 assists, and 1.8 steals per game in his five All-Star Game sections, while shooting 48.2% from the field and 39.2% from downtown. The 2025 NBA All-Star Game is Sunday Feb. 16.

Mitchell played for Louisville basketball back in the 2016-2017 season, where Cardinals guard averaged 15.6 points, 4.9 rebounds, 2.7 assists, and 2.1 steals per game, and secured a spot on the First Team All-ACC selection. He would later on be the No. 13 overall draft pick in the 2017 NBA draft and played for the Utah Jazz in the first five seasons of his NBA career.
