It is officially Super Bowl week, and Louisville football will have a former football player back in the Super Bowl for the first time in three tries.

Mekhi Becton is trying to etch his name in Louisville football history and become a Super Bowl champion and join an elite category. Becton started his career in Louisville in 2017, where he was an absolute beast on the offensive line and helped lead UofL dominant in the run game at the time.

Becton and his Cardinals at the time averaged 245 yards per game and was ranked as one of the top rushing attacks in College Football. The play he is most remembered for is one-yard rushing touchdown in 2018 against Indiana State.

He is now on the Philadelphia Eagles where he is the starting right guard, and has become a key piece in one of the leagueโ€™s best rushing attacks.

Mekhi Becton best season with Louisville came in 2017 when the Cardinals went 8-5. Becton is 6'7 360 lbs. and he was one of the best linemen in his draft class. He was the third overall linemen drafted after his 23 career starts with Louisville.

Becton was the 11th overall pick, and quickly made a name for himself as a dominant offensive linemen. Louisville has only had 35 former players play in the Super Bowl, making him 36.

Becton has been blocking for Saquon Barkley and has helped Barkley have an historic season, and become an MVP candidate. Eagles are averaging 180 yards on the ground, and Becton has played a pivotal role in their run game, as he ranks in the top 20 in both run-blocking and overall pass-protection grade according to PFF.

If the Philadelphia Eagles can win their second Super Bowl in program history, it would not only make history for the Eagles, but also for Mekhi Becton and Louisville Football. He would become the first Louisville football player to win a Super Bowl and take home a ring since Tutu Atwell and Javian Hawkins back in 2022.

The Philadelphia Eagles and Kansas City Chiefs will go head-to-head in Super Bowl LIX on Feb. 9 at 6:30 p.m. local time.
