It is the middle of May, and Louisville basketball fans have their eyes all on one specific transfer target. Iowa State transfer Milan Momcilovic is at the top of the Cardinals' target list as Pat Kelsey rebuilds this team, and it appears Louisville continues to gain serious momentum with the 5-star transfer.

Milan Momcilovic Update: Louisville in a 3-team battle if 5-star PF returns to college

Momcilovic made it clear the other day at the 2026 NBA Combine that the 2026 NBA Draft is the top priority for him, but if he isn’t guaranteed a good spot in the NBA Draft, he will consider returning to college basketball. The deadline for that decision is May 27, and if the elite power forward does return, Jeff Goodman just made it clear that Louisville and one other school are the “frontrunners” for the 5-star.

When looking at Momcilovic, many think the frontrunner might be Kentucky. However, Goodman made it clear yesterday on his live show that the frontrunners for the 5-star center aren’t Kentucky, but in fact Louisville and St. John’s.

“I think it’s a no-brainer he (Momcilovic) goes back to school,” stated Goodman. “Some of the schools that are obviously looking at him right now, St. John’s and Louisville, are probably the two schools as of today that would be the frontrunner for him.”

It was reported earlier this week that the Cardinals are a “serious threat to land Momcilovic” if he returns to college basketball, and now Goodman doesn’t just say it’s a “no-brainer” on if he thinks Momcilovic returns to college basketball, but he believes Louisville is a “frontrunner” and is battling St. John’s, and didn’t even mention Kentucky.

Goodman’s partner on the show, Rob Dauster, brought up right away that Kentucky is a team that needs Momcilovic the most, and Goodman had nothing to add. Which says a lot. So, Dauster gave Goodman a chance to say the Wildcats are also right there, too, or not far behind, but Goodman remained quiet, which makes it seem like in Goodman’s eyes, there could be a decent gap from Louisville and St. John’s to Kentucky.

Kelsey has shown this offseason that Louisville is emerging as a top destination in college basketball, and if the Cardinals can find a way to land Momcilovic, they would have earned the No. 1 and No. 2 overall transfers in the portal. It won’t be easy, but Louisville seems to be gaining serious momentum and making a lot of noise with Momcilovic as May 27 approaches.
