Louisville currently sits in third place in the ACC with a 9-2 conference record and a 16-6 overall record.
Cardinals have shown glimpses of their true potential, but past couple games they have struggled from beyond the arc, and demonstrates that Pat Kelsey squad lives and dies from deep. Louisville is one of the most dangerous teams from beyond the arc, and when they are able to drive and kick, or score in the paint early, it causes havoc on the opponents defense the rest of the game.
Louisville basketball put on a shooting clinic, and demonstrated Wednesday night their true potential and when the Cardinals click, they are almost an unstoppable beast.
Louisville basketball turnaround proves limitless potential
Louisville basketball is demonstrating their full potential of what this offense can be when they are able to knock down shots at a reasonable rate.
Louisville is not afraid to go and attack a player, as Chucky Hepburn or Terrence Edwards Jr. are known to attack a player if they feels they have the advantage. Hepburn and Edwards love attacking the defense and either try and create a shot or drive and kick to the open shooter. The Cardinals brought in 13 transfers, and average 10 threes a game which is second in the ACC.
UofL is led by transfer Reyne Smith who is lethal from deep, as he is shooting from beyond the arc at 40% as he has made 83 threes this season. He averages 3.8 threes per game which ranks third in the nation.
Smith was limited in the first half to just one three-pointer, but the Cardinals shot the ball over 50% in the first half, and seven of eight players who saw the floor scored, and five of them made a shot from deep. All five starters scored in the first half.
This Cardinals team is known to live and die from deep, and that can play consequences, however when they can play smart basketball, not be rushed and play to their advantages like they did in the first half, this team can compete with anyone.
Cardinals caught flames in the first half against Boston College as 21 of their 41 points came from beyond the arc. Louisville basketball went 7-13 from deep. J' Vonne Hadley led the way for Louisville with 10 points, and going 2-2 from the three-point line.
Hadley shoots around 34% from deep, and if he can keep increasing his three-point percentage and shoot at a high-rate, it would take a lot of pressure of Smith, and Hadley would benefit off Hepburn playmaking tremendously.
Louisville went on a 12-0 in a spam five minutes, in the first half against Boston College. In that window, Chucky Hepburn went 2-2 from deep, and ended the half with 8 points, 3 assists, 2 rebounds and a steal in the first half.
Pat Kelsey, put out a small lineup, and it paid up big time, as the Cardinals went on a 10-2 run in a four minute window, and put UofL up 12. Cardinals know they have the green light, and when they are able to play balance basketball, take good shots, this team has a bright future.
It is no secret that this Louisville offense will go as far as their three-point shooting can take them. However, they are showing how great this team can be when they play Pat Kelsey basketball and take good shot selections and find the open man and shoot with confidence.
