Louisville basketball has its eyes on many 2027 targets, but one who has stood out to many is 5-star point guard Nasir Anderson. The 6-foot-4, 200-pound guard ranks as a unanimous 5-star point guard in the 2027 recruiting class and is the No. 1 point guard according to 247 Sports and On3 Sports.

He ranks as high as No. 5 overall in the 2027 recruiting class after going on to win MVP and the gold medal with Team USA at the U16 AmericaCup. Anderson was on the All-Star Five as well after his impressive tournament run, averaging 12.3 points, 6.8 assists, 3.5 steals, and 2.3 rebounds per game.

Louisville was one of the first programs to extend an offer to Anderson, but the Cardinals fans just learned they are falling behind in his recruiting process early on as Arkansas, Auburn, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and USC are the early frontrunners.

Louisville basketball's 2027 recruiting class buzz

Sam Kayser recently reported that Anderson is hearing the most from these seven schools. While the Cardinals are not listed among the early contenders, Louisville does have a good backup plan. The Cardinals recently hosted the No. 4 point guard in the 2027 recruiting class, Reese Alston.

The Cardinals earned Alston’s first official visit as he visited Louisville back in early December. The 4-star point guard ranks as high as No. 21 in the nation after he averaged 21.2 points, 5.2 assists, 4.3 rebounds, and 2.4 steals last season. So far this season, the 4-star guard is averaging 23.4 points, 5.3 assists, 4.1 rebounds, and 2.6 steals per game.

So, while the Cardinals may be on the outside looking in for the No. 1 point guard, it appears they are trending in the right direction with Alston and have a solid backup plan.

Louisville basketball is looking to jump ahead and recruit big in the 2027 recruiting class as the Cardinals are hosting the nation’s No. 1 overall recruit this weekend, CJ Rosser. The Cardinals are set to be the third program Rosser will visit, after Wake Forest and North Carolina, and he is scheduled to visit Kentucky on Feb. 4.

The Cardinals are also early contenders for 5-star Moussa Kamissoko, the nation’s No. 4 overall recruit in the 2027 recruiting class. Sam Kayser reported earlier this week that the Cardinals are one of seven schools actively recruiting Kamissoko. Louisville is towards the top with the 5-star small forward as Kayser reported Louisville, Arkansas, Auburn, North Carolina State, Virginia, Oklahoma State, and Penn State are the teams the No. 1 small-forward recruit has “been hearing the most from.”

The Cardinals have earned two commitments already in the 2027 recruiting class. The Cardinals' first commitment was 4-star recruit Ferlandes Wright, who ranks as high as No. 125 in the 2027 recruiting class, and their other commitment is 3-star recruit Isaac Ellis, who ranks as high as No. 188 in the 2027 recruiting class.
